Middle Eastern importers add roof tents, spotlights and off-road tyres galore ahead of Icons of Porsche Festival
The second annual Icons of Porsche Festival takes place in Dubai this weekend, and after last year’s event attracted thousands of visitors, Porsche has challenged the UAE’s two Porsche importers to celebrate 20 years of the Cayenne with many, many off-road mods.
Porsche Centre Dubai and the Northern Emirates and Porsche Centre Abu Dhabi each bought four first-gen Cayennes apiece, and set about modifying them for the kind of asphalt-less activities they’re known for in that part of the world.
The eight-strong line-up features a spread of E1s from 2007 to 2010, with the many accessories supplied from the Porsche Classic catalogue.
As you can see from the gallery above, we’re talking all-terrain tyres, spotlights, graphics, jacked-up suspension and underbody protection. There’s even a ladder-accessed roof tent on show; not many hotels in the desert, after all.
Oh, and four of the cars got 25 and 30mm spacers on the front and rear wheels respectively with tubular bumper bars for an altogether tougher look.

“I’m really excited about these cars because they’ve all come out better than any of us could have imagined and they look superb,” said Mark Sinclair, the GM of Porsche Centre Dubai and the Northern Emirates, Al Naboodah Automobiles. “We have three Cayenne S models plus a Cayenne GTS. We didn’t need to touch anything mechanical because this model is very capable when it comes to the drivetrain.”
Apparently people are queuing up to buy the Cayennes already… including one of the eight former owners who wants to buy his car back. Seller’s remorse?
