Volkswagen to release special-edition small SUV in September, to help combat supply hiccups
A new special-edition Volkswagen T-Roc has been confirmed for Australian release, and it goes big on value and urban styling.
Priced from $35,990 plus on-road costs, the 2023 Volkswagen T-Roc CityLife will serve as the temporary entry point to the German brand’s local compact SUV range with a tastefully reduced and more focused standard equipment list compared to the pricier T-Roc Style, which sits $1110 upstream.
For starters, the CityLife rides on smaller 17-inch alloys as opposed to the Style’s 18s, but the shrunken wheels are shod with taller-profile tyres that VW says makes it more comfortable over pothole-scared urban streets.
Other exterior changes include reflector LED headlights and a unique black grille to help mark it apart from its stablemates.
Inside, the CityLife still comes with keyless entry and start, a digital instrument cluster, wireless smartphone charging, dual-zone climate control, leather-wrapped steering wheel, paddle shifters, Light Assist, adaptive cruise control, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
Infotainment duties are handled by an 8.0-inch interface sporting DAB+ digital radio and App-Connect, while occupants sit on fabric-trimmed Comfort seats.
Under the bonnet is the same 110kW/250Nm 1.4-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine as the Style, driving the front wheels via an eight-speed automatic transmission.
Volkswagen Passenger Vehicles director Michal Szaniecki said sheer demand for the T-Roc spurred the creation of the CityLife.
“The price of the CityLife is comparable to smaller compact SUVs with fewer features, so we expect this to add significantly to the T-Roc’s market positioning and further increase its segment share,” he said.
Volkswagen Australia is taking orders for the T-Roc CityLife as of today, ahead of its arrival Down Under in “significant numbers” in September.
Pearl-effect and metallic paint will be the only optional extra available for the CityLife, setting customers back an extra $700.
