Porsche now offers a rooftop tent for its Cayenne, Macan, Panamera, Taycan, and most surprisingly of all, the 911.
The optional accessory will allow owners of these vehicles to explore the great outdoors in a new way, by sleeping on the roof of their high-performance German automobile.
It will soon also be complemented by additional amenities to make your camping experience all the more pleasurable, including an inner tent, heated blanket, and shoe and bag organiser.
A room for two
The Porsche roof tent is a room for two that can be installed on the “roof transport systems” of all Porsche models except for the Cayman and Boxster. It’s also not compatible with Cabriolet, GT, and Targa variants.
The add-on is available in two colour combinations namely black/light grey and black/dark grey, each of which features a matte black Porsche logo on the sides.
According to the manufacturer, erecting the roof tent is rather painless and can be done quickly by opening the safety latches, lifting the hardcase with the help of gas-pressure shock absorbers, folding out and stabilizing the foot zone with an integrated ladder, and lastly pulling the sides taut with the four included poles.
Once set up, it boasts 2.73m² of floor space measuring 210cm by 130cm, while standing 118cm tall.
Inside, it features side windows that can be fully opened, an insect guard, and an integrated polyfoam mattress, while the surrounds are made from a “breathable cotton blend.”
On the vehicles with roof rails equipped, the tent then supports a maximum of 190kg, but on those without roof rails, it only goes up to 140kg.
Owners with this accessory fitted will also have to keep their speed in check when touring the country as the recommended top speed with the folded tent is 130km/h.
