Calais Cadillac Models & History 1972
n 1972, General Motors kept busy with the task of re-engineering its cars to conform to new fuel and safety standards established by Federal Government mandate. There was little time to pay attention to altering appearances and few styling changes were seen in the latest Cadillacs. A modest frontal revision placed more emphasis on horizontal grille blades. The parking lamps were moved from the bumper to between the square bezeled headlamps, which were now set wider apart. V-shaped emblems made a return appearance on the hood and deck lid.
1972 Cadillac
A number of equipment changes were seen. As usual (since 1967) the list of Calais features started with all regulation safety devices, to which was added variable ratio power steering; dual power brakes with front discs; automatic transmission; power windows; all courtesy and warning lights; a new bumper impact system; three-speed wipers and windshield washers; visor vanity mirror; two front cigar lighters; automatic parking brake release; front center arm rest; passenger assist straps; side marker and cornering lights; the 472 cubic inch four-barrel V-8; flow-through ventilation; and five L78-15 black sidewall bias belted tires. Externally, the Calais was identified by front fender model scripts; tin horizontal belt moldings; fender skirts; full wheel covers; and a script on the right side of the trunk.
