It would be the first Caddy EV to receive the V treatment.
Two years ago, Cadillac said it was flirting with the idea of a Lyriq-V, and a recent leak on the manufacturer’s accessories site indicates that this high-performance electric crossover is the real deal.
Cadillac Society spotted a drop-down menu on the accessories site that lists four Lyriq trim levels for the 2024 model year, including the Tech, Sport, and Luxury trims we already know about. But the fourth trim simply said “V” – and we all know what that signifies in the world of Cadillac. The V trim has since been removed from the site, but the screenshot below proves that it was there.
Considering that the dual-motor Lyriq already produces 500 horsepower, the Lyriq-V could end up being one of the quickest production Caddys ever.
There is no reason why Cadillac shouldn't expand the Lyriq lineup to include a V model, of course. Tesla has impressed with Performance versions of the Model Y and Model X, while BMW and Mercedes have doled out the M and AMG treatment, respectively, to a number of EVs.
We expect the Cadillac Lyriq-V to also come with dual motors and all-wheel drive, which will be required to facilitate all that power. The Lyriq shares its Ultium platform with the upcoming Chevrolet Blazer EV SS, and that already makes 557 hp with an estimated 0-60 time of under four seconds. We expect the Lyriq-V to make at least that much power to adequately distance it from the current dual-motor Lyriq with 500 horses.
As with other V models like the Escalade-V, the Lyriq-V will probably come with sportier styling, a V-tuned suspension, larger brakes, and a few bespoke bits of trim scattered around the cabin. What's for sure is that the Lyriq-V will not come cheaply, as the current top Lyriq trim with AWD comes in at around $75,000. We would not be surprised if the Lyriq-V starts at around $90,000 before options, but that would still be cheaper than the $112,650 BMW iX M60, which has 610 hp.
“If you looked at Cadillac in the past, having sporty variants has been part of our heritage,” said Rory Harvey from Cadillac around two years ago when a Lyriq-V was being considered. “That is something we're looking at and evaluating moving forward.”
Considering that the website leak listed the V trim as a 2024 model, we're hopeful that it will be revealed before the end of this year.
