The Ford Bronco is currently suffering from a massive shortage across the USA for several reasons. Thanks to something of a miracle, however, the manufacturer managed to reserve one for the Pope Francis Center which will be auctioned at the Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale this coming Thursday. All funds generated from the sale will be put towards the battle against homelessness in the USA.
Mind you, Ford isn't simply taking a Bronco and just placing it on the block. This one-off model will be known as the Bronco Pope Francis Center First Edition and features a unique design both inside and out. This collaboration is a result of the two institutions working closely with one another on an annual basis with the unit being sponsored by David Fischer Jr., president and CEO at The Suburban Collection Holdings.
The custom Bronco has been finished in a classic Wimbledon White finish, a shade that was available on the original 1966 model. If you want it applied to a new car, you're fresh out of luck because the paint is not selectable as an option. This is paired with a set of custom rims of the same color. They're made by Detroit Steel Wheels and are contrasted by Rapid Red stripes which you will also find on the car's sides and hood.
Silver elements have been panted to select trimmings such as the single-piece grille and the Ford Performance metal bumper. This has been done to bring the one-off Bronco more in line with its historic ancestor.
To make the SUV feel just a bit more special, Ford has also kitted the Bronco out with genuine accessories that include a rooftop lightbar, side pod lights, tube doors, and wheel-well rock lights supplied by Rigid. For added security, a safe has been added to the cabin together with a Molle strap system installed to the inner swing gate. A series of additional storage compartments add convenience to the build.
Within the cockpit of the Bronco, you will find the same Wimbledon White paint applied to the instrument panel. This is matched with red air vent accents, grab handles, and Bronco branding. Keeping with the theme is white vinyl upholstery contrasted by black seat surrounds and interior trimmings.
“It's an honor to be able to help support a great charity like the Pope Francis Center,” said Steve Gilmore, chief designer, Ford Vehicle Personalization. “Father Timothy McCabe and the team at the center were really instrumental in this project, collaborating on theme ideas and colors. The key was finding those special touches that really speak to the heritage of the 1966 Bronco, and then combining them with some of the modern features on a Bronco First Edition.”
This auction will generate funds that the Pope Francis Center hopes to put towards the eradication of chronic homelessness in Detroit by 2030. The organization has been serving the community's most vulnerable citizens for the last three decades. Given how much some new Broncos are selling for on dealership floors, there's no doubt that this unique creation will fetch a fair penny.
