The price for this one-off is a cool 11 million Euro.
Bugatti is always happy to show off its heritage. And with a brand 110 years old that’s had as much of a back and forth as Bugatti, who can blame them? The latest is a one-off tribute to one of its classic models. What better way to celebrate one of the most expensive cars ever sold than with the most expensive new car ever sold?
La Voiture Noire is a tribute to the Type 57 SC. Only four of the Bugatti Atlantic Coupés were ever built. And until recently, only two were known to remain.
One of the most striking cars ever put to paper, the long hood, flowing wheel arches, and diving lines of the cab helped to make the remaining examples into legends valued at more than US $40 Million each.
To mark 110 years of Bugatti and honour the original Atlantic, La Voiture Noire is a stunning one-off. It’s an all-carbon special full of references to the company’s history both long and short.
Like the C-line in the body at the rear of the front windows. That’s straight from the Veyron. Move further to the rear where the bulging rear fenders and six tailpipes are borrowed from the original Type 57.
The windows flow seamlessly into the sides. The bumpers are one with the body. Bugatti says that this new car changes the brand’s hyper sports car into a grand tourer trading aggression for elegance in the styling.
“Every single component has been handcrafted and the carbon fibre body has a deep black gloss only interrupted by the ultrafine fibre structure. This is a material that has been handled perfectly,” says Bugatti designer Etienne Salomé. “We worked long and hard on this design until there was nothing that we could improve. For us, the coupé represents the perfect form with a perfect finish.”
Powering La Voiture Noire is a version of Bugatt’s 8.0L quad-turbo W16. In this vehicle, it makes 1,500 hp and 1,180 lb-ft of torque.
The price for this one-off is a cool 11 million Euro. That’s about $16.7 million. Before taxes, of course, which in the car’s home of France would bring the price to just over CAD $20 million. Which is likely pocket change for anyone even considering this special car.
Bugatti isn’t saying who the buyer is, but rumours are circulating that it was none other than Ferdinand Piech. The former Chair and CEO of the VW Group who is responsible for the reformation of Bugatti in 2000.
