JEAN-FRANCOIS MONIERGetty ImagesFormula 1 is going to be hitting the big screen.
Apple Studios has landed the rights to an upcoming Formula 1-themed feature that will star Brad Pitt and be co-produced by seven-time champion Lewis Hamilton.
Details are so far thin, but the screenplay will revolve around Pitt, 58, who will star as a driver coming out of retirement to compete alongside a rookie driver. Joseph Kosinski, fresh from the success of Top Gun: Maverick, has been lined up to direct.
Kosinski will also produce the feature, alongside Hamilton, Plan B Entertainment, and Jerry Bruckheimer and Chad Oman. Penni Throw will serve as Executive Producer while Ehren Kruger, who also recently worked on Top Gun: Maverick, will write the screenplay.
No further details on the cast have been provided while a release date has not yet been outlined.
While sports-based documentaries, including Netflix’s Formula 1: Drive to Survive, have boomed in recent years, there has been more of a mixed response to sports-based movies.
Let’s hope this venture is more Grand Prix than Driven.
