WASHINGTON: Everything is meant to be bigger and better in the US state of Texas, so it is no surprise that local hypercar maker Hennessey has come up with a colossal six-wheel-drive pick-up truck.
Powered by a 6.2-litre supercharged V8 engine with a whopping 1,102 horsepower on tap, the jacked-up Mammoth 6×6 is the biggest truck ever created by the 30-year-old company.
Billed as “terrifyingly imposing, monstrously capable, and unthinkably fast.” the pick-up dwarfs regular cars and vans.
And standing at 2 metres tall and 2.2 metres wide, the Mammoth will probably frighten the living daylights out of their drivers too.
Hennessey obviously sees a market for the bonkers creation, but only 12 will be made – each at a cost of around US$449,950 (around RM2mil).
The recipe for the pick-up was straightforward. Take a base model of the Dodge Ram TRX, which is pretty big to start with, add a third axle and extend the truck’s length.
Hennessey’s engineers then extracted an extra 300hp from the stock engine and added off-road kit ranging from locking rear axles and Bilstein suspension to 20-inch wheels clad with fat tyres.
“Everything on the Mammoth 6×6 is bigger, badder, and more imposing – plus, it’s still super-fast, while being a total powerhouse off-road. It’s the undisputed king of the road,” said John Hennessey, company founder and CEO, with characteristic Texan modesty.
Hennessey has been making monster 6×6 trucks for a while, having built and sold more than 20 each of the Ford F-150 Raptor-based VelociRaptor 6×6 and the Goliath 6×6 truck based on the Chevrolet Silverado.
