BMW’s i4 M50 served as a wonderful glimpse into the prospect of performance electric vehicles. Now the Bavarian firm seeks to expand its electric model offerings by introducing the 2025 BMW i5.

BMW’s next electrified model has been unveiled (not quite) and appears to slot into the firm’s 5 Series lineup. This next battery-electric vehicle will likely debut later this year alongside the next-generation M5 and 5 Series sedans. Information is scarce at the moment, but the official unveiling of the next electric four-wheeler in the firm’s fleet is around the corner.
The I5 will almost certainly be positioned similarly to the I4, which belongs to the 4-series subspecies. The i5 will most definitely weigh more than its ICE stablemates but will most likely be accompanied by a significantly inflated power output to compensate for a hefty physique. As a battery-powered BMW of the modern era or near future, the BMW i5 may be founded on the firm’s Neue Klasse platform, which is said to arrive somewhere around 2025. This platform might endow the I5 with incredible charging capabilities but will unfortunately not be able to possess a driving range exceeding 1 000km.

Although no information has been released detailing the inner workings of the anticipated electrified 5 series, BWM is developing an M-badged I5 model.
“The all-electric BMW i4 M50 shows how BMW blends dynamic performance and electric mobility to perfection. It was the best-selling BMW M model worldwide in 2022. A fully electric Performance model from BMW M GmbH will also be included in the new BMW 5 Series Sedan line-up.” – Oliver Zipse, Chairman of the Board of Management of BMW AG

This could mean that the vehicle range could feature a range-topping i5 M with an eDrive40 model or M50 populating the lower ranks of the “E-5-series” model range with an i5 Touring model hinted for an unveiling in 2024.
We’ll keep you updated as information is released closer to the car’s reveal.
