The highly anticipated G87 BMW M2 confirmed for an October debut will boast the M4’s engine and brakes but not this colourful camo. Until then, we can expect to see the tail-happy model be teased through an extensive media campaign and potentially a few more leaked images too.
The wraps of the compact Bavarian coupe will officially come off in October which will mark a bittersweet day not only for BMW aficionados but enthusiasts alike. The BMW M2 confirmed that it would be the last ICE-only M car before future electrification gravitates towards the world’s most powerful letter. Nonetheless what we have on our hands here is a piping hot coupe that will take some of the running gear from its larger and highly impressive M4 model, albeit with a tad less power so as not to upset the pecking order of the BMW portfolio.
The M2 confirmed for October is scheduled to hit the global market by the end of Q1 in 2023. Buyers of the G87 will be able to enjoy the same level of performance as the outgoing M2 CS according to BMW and this is compliments of a detuned S58 inline-six engine that comes straight out of the M4. In addition to this, the newcomer has also been confirmed to receive the braking system from its bigger sibling. To make the purists happy, the last ICE-powered M car will also get the send off it deserves considering it will offer a standard six-speed transmission or an optional eight-speed M Steptronic automatic gearbox.
Other features of the compact coupe include a carbon fibre roof and all-around wheel arches that have been flared out to the tune of 53 mm, making it easily distinguishable from the standard M240i. The cabin, which can also be seen to an extent here, will host the instrument cluster and touchscreen in the same curved piece of glass as on all BMWs that have the iDrive 8.
