The G82 M4 with the “CS” suffix will reportedly make its way to dealerships around mid-2024, according to BMW M CEO Frank van Meel.

During an interview with AutoCar, the performance division’s bigwig alluded to the arrival of the M4 CS in dealerships next year. Alongside the revival of the M4 CS badge in the G82 generation coupe next year, BMW will reportedly unsheathe the highly anticipated G90 M5 and M5 Touring models, but I digress.
While we have some information from the horse’s mouth regarding the arrival of the new CS-badged offshoot, its inner workings remain a mystery. It will undoubtedly serve as the stopgap between the esteemed CSL badge and the vanilla competition badge, much like the F82 M4 CS, which bridged the gap between the competition badge and the GTS badge.

With that in mind, regarding performance and go-faster goodies, turn your attention to the recently debuted G80 M3 CS. Carbon fibre components from bonnet to bucket seats and a significant bump in power (375 kW to 405 kW) are likely the main changes we will see in the G82 M4 CS. The last M4 to bear the CS suffix was characterised by a lowered overall weight by way of a healthy amount of carbon fibre most notably on the race-car-esque door panels, a tighter suspension setup and a slight increase in power.
It’s safe to assume that the M4 CS will have a power output and powerplant changes akin to the M3 CS (405 kW/ 650 N.m by way of increased boost pressures or engine management adjustments). Beyond the 3,0-litre straight six S58 engine mated to BMW 8-speed M Steptronic transmission, we may see changes such as tuned axle kinematics and unique wheel camber settings. Additionally, BMW may adjust the anti-roll bars and auxiliary springs to elevate the chassis dynamics. However, it must be noted that while we have a rough arrival date, information regarding the inner workings of the soon-to-be M4 CS should be treated as speculation until official information is released.

With that said, I hope that BMW will use the San Marino Blue metallic paint colour as the debut colour of the G82 M4 CS. We will continue to monitor this story and provide updates as more information becomes available.
