The biggest-ever Suzuki Jimny gathering is happening this week from 22 to 24 September in the town of Clarens, Free State.

The Jimny gathering coincides with Suzuki’s Safari Town Music Festival and will see hundreds, if not thousands of mini 4x4s from multiple generations dating back to the 1970s get together to celebrate its long history – including Suzuki SJ, LJ, and Samurai owners.

“By most estimates, there are over 20,000 owners of these vehicles in South Africa,” said Brendon Carpenter, Brand Marketing Manager of Suzuki Auto South Africa.

What’s in store

The Suzuki Gathering weekend starts this Friday, 22 September, with the first owners and festival goers welcomed to the town and a silent disco taking place at the Jimny Camping Village.

On Saturday, Suzuki and the 4x4s “will depart on a Jimny Expedition and have fun at the Safari Town Festival” where several local bands and famous personalities will provide entertainment, including:

  • Mango Groove
  • Goodluck
  • Spoegwolf
  • Schalk Bezuidenhout
  • Bernice West
  • Femi Koya
  • Quadasi & Maqhinga
  • Black Heidi
  • Josh Thatcher

There will also be artisanal food stalls; craft beer, gin, wine, and bubbly bars; a big screen to watch the rugby; a kids’ play area; craft vendors; and an opportunity to meet and greet the artists that are performing on the main stage.

On Sunday, the attendees will celebrate National Heritage Day and this is also when the official gathering world record will be attempted.
