The first Cadillac SUV to be adorned with the V badge has now been confirmed in typical American fashion with a sizable supercharged-V8 which packs 508 kW and 885 N.m. Say hello to the behemoth Cadillac Escalade-V.
The sub three-ton Escalade-V employs the same 6,2-litre supercharged engine found in the Cadillac CT5-V Blackwing – a sharp and precise handling creation aimed squarely at the premium sedan segment. Unlike most of its European competition, it can be specified with a clutch pedal and a manual transmission. Both V models will also be handcrafted in the Corvette production plant in Kentucky. There are some differences though, where the sedan employs a 1,7-litre supercharger, the behemoth Cadillac Escalade-V comes with one whole litre more – giving it the slight edge over its lower counterpart. This means that it can hit 100 km/h from a standstill in about 4,5 seconds.

The suspension has been overhauled with electronically adjusted Magnetic Ride Control 4.0 dampers which work in collaboration with an adaptable air spring system. When in all-out V-mode, the SUV suspension can lower by 20 mm which also tightens dampers to minimise body roll and make handling more predictable. Other settings can also be adjusted to driver preference which includes brake pedal feel, steering calibration, exhaust noise and AWD mode.
The inside looks mostly similar to earlier Escalades with a curved OLED display of three panels totaling 38-inches while on screen functionality can play preferred tunes into the 36 speaker AKG sound system. While the standard Escalade starts from $77,840 (or R1,2 million), the hardcore behemoth Cadillac Escalade-V will be almost double that starting from $149,990 (or roughly R2,5 million). A significant price to pay for what Cadillac claims to be the automobile Industry’s strongest full-size SUV.”
