beam offers 50% off all rides during merdeka to encourage malaysians to use public transport

To promote the use of public transport rather than private vehicles this Independence Day, Beam Malaysia is offering a special Merdeka Promo with discounts of up to 50 percent on all rides.

The special promo will run from 27th August to 16th September 2022. Riders will be able to use a Beam electric scooter (e-scooter) from selected public transportation hub spots for just RM 0.30 per minute.

This means that the user will get a 33 percent discount for off-peak hours (6 am to 6 pm on weekdays) and a 50 percent discount for peak hours (6 pm to 6 am on weekdays and entire weekends).

E-scooter users who end their Beam e-scooter trips by parking at designated public transportation hub spots will also receive a RM 2 credit reward.

According to the National Transport Policy 2019-2030, the government is aiming for the public transportation’s modal share to hit 40 percent by the year 2030. As of 2019, the number sits only at 25 percent. Meanwhile, only 17 percent of commuters rely on public transportation in the city.

Beam Malaysia aims to help the government achieve its goal by playing an important role in first- and last-mile transportation. At the moment, the biggest complaint Malaysians have when it comes to public transportation is the poor first- and last-mile connection.

Beam has already started its campaign by placing more of its shared e-scooters in key areas of Klang Valley, allowing public transport commuters to get to their destinations efficiently and comfortably.

According to a survey done by Beam, thanks to the strategically placed e-scooters, 23 percent of respondents answered ‘most likely to’, ‘much more likely to’ or ‘definitely going to’ sell or end the lease on their private vehicles.
