MG’s much awaited electric hatchback, the MG 4, received a five-star safety rating in Europe last week. Now, the first MG 4 has been spotted in Australia on Sydney roads.
The MG 4 was spotted by EV enthusiast Greg, who posted some photos of the car on social media.
“Just spotted behind Sydney city MG. Looks like the MG4 that just got NCAP 5 star, keen to see them in Australia”
The spotted MG 4 was in extensive camouflage but the iconic headlights showed that it is the affordable hatchback that many Australians are waiting for.
The rear of the car is also in camouflage wrapping but the distinct tail lights that swoop from one end of the car to the other made it easy to spot the MG 4.

MG has previously mentioned that it aims to launch this EV in Australia in the first half of 2023.
The UK is MG’s other main right-hand drive market where the MG 4 was officially launched in September this year. Since its launch, it has won multiple awards in the country including:
- Top Gear – Bargain of the Year
- DrivingElectric – Best Value Electric Car, Car of the Year, Reader’s Favourite Electric Car
- Electrifying.com – Best Small Family Car, Best Value Car, Car of the Year
- carwow – Car of the Year
- Scottish Car of the Year Awards – Best EV under £40,000
In the UK, this hatchback EV is offered in two variants:
- SE
- Trophy
The SE model comes in either standard or long-range versions. The standard version is powered by a 51 kWh battery pack while the extended version comes with a 64 kWh pack.

The Trophy version only comes with a long-range extended battery pack that can deliver up to 435 km of WLTP range.
The MG 4 starts under the MG ZS EV with starting prices at about 10% below the MG ZS EV. With the new MG ZS EV starting at $44,490 driveaway, we can expect the MG 4 starting prices to be under $42,000 in Australia.
Currently in Australia, the new MG ZS EV can deliver up to 320 km on a single charge. In November, it was the fourth best-selling EV in the country.

Last year, the previous generation of the MG ZS EV was also the second-best-selling EV in Australia.
With the credibility of the MG brand in Australia and affordable EVs being in such high demand, the new MG 4 with its sleek design will do quite well when it lands in 2023.
