Tesla has begun production for the next round of Model Y deliveries to Australia, with order holders reporting progress over the weekend of their RWD orders.
Many have been told that their orders are being brought forward after being advised of a “build date” of Friday 23/09/2022 on their orders.
The update on estimated delivery dates for these lucky customers – many of whom had placed their orders in the first week they were open in Australia – ranges from mid-October to early November. Originally some of these customers had been advised of an estimated delivery date range of November 2022 to February 2023.

One order holder from Sydney mentioned that their order was placed on Day 2 of Model Y orders opening in Australia back in June while many others were first-day order holders.
Thousands more Model Ys heading to Australia
After Tesla’s upgrade of the Shanghai factory during the last couple of months, production is finally starting to ramp up for our right-hand drive EV market too.
Last month, Tesla delivered 1,017 Model Ys to Australian customers. The recently updated delivery dates for Model Y order holders are a sign of what’s to come.
Australian Tesla Model Y order estimates from The Driven suggest that Tesla racked up over 11,000 orders from local buyers during the first week of the local launch.

Another production run for Australian-bound Tesla Model Ys is great news for thousands still waiting for their first spacious EV.
The delivery dates being bought forward for these customers will be welcomed by many as the halving of fuel excise for petrol vehicles is expected to end at the end of this month and fuel prices are expected to rise.
