Aston Martin is well-known for creating some of the most stylish and iconic Grand Tourer models, however, they have just created a new segment with the unveiling of the DB12, and that is Super Tourer. Find out a little more about the new model here.
The Aston Martin marque was established 110 years ago and became famous for creating Grand Touring models such as the DB range which celebrates its 75th anniversary in 2023. Now, however, the British automaker has promoted the DB moniker to Super Tourer with its latest reveal, the DB12.
But before you start your search for new or used Aston Martin models on AutoTrader here, remember that you can sell your car quickly and easily with the Instant Offer tool here. For now, let us find out more about the newcomer.
Styling
The core values of the DB range are high-performance and ultra-luxury and the DB12 most certainly portrays that in its design. Upfront, flanked by dynamic LED headlamps and daytime running lights, is a larger and more pronounced grille and front splitter. This is complemented by the fact that the wheel tracks have been increased by 6mm in the front and 22mm at the rear when compared to the DB11.
Further bolstering the wide stance is the large 21-inch forged alloy wheels at the front and rear. The aerodynamic shoulders and rooflines remain unmistakably DB.
Interior
The strong and wide lines are also incorporated into the cabin design, which now features more horizontal themes to accentuate the spaciousness. The occupants are positioned below the shoulder line of the car while the centre console is high to create cockpit-like experiences for both the driver and passenger.
The dashboard and cabin are driver-centric, however, both occupants can easily access the combination of analogue buttons and dials as well as the first in-house designed infotainment system, which takes shape as a 10.25-inch touch display with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto functionality. Responsiveness of the system was also a key focus with the capacitive touch control having a 30ms reaction time.
As can be expected from a Super Tourer, the cabin is designed and constructed with the finest materials and ergonomics to provide a dynamic and sporty feeling and a comfortable experience for both the driver and passenger for spirited drives or long trips. Aston Martin has also partnered with Bowers & Wilkins which has created an 11-speaker surround sound system, however, a 15-speaker bespoke system is also available for those audiophiles.
But one of the most impressive parts of the infotainment system is the online connectivity and dedicated Aston Martin app. With the vehicle installed with an e-sim, the DB12 connects to Aston Martin’s secure servers for over-the-air updates as well as navigational features such as 3D maps. The owner can also send a location from the app to the vehicle before setting off.
The connectivity features of the model are divided into three distinct packages which are as follows:
– Convenience – Connected Navigation / Theft Alert / Voice Assistant / Geofence Alert
– Vehicle Management – Locate / Identify / Protect / Speed Alert / Trip Data / Vehicle Status / Remote Lock / Unlock
– Vehicle Services – Emergency Call / Breakdown Call / Aston Martin Concierge / Privacy Mode / Over The Air Updates / Subscriptions / Diagnostics
Performance
Under the long bonnet, customers can expect a 4.0-litre, twin-turbocharged, V8 petrol engine coupled to an 8-speed automatic transmission. The motor produces around 500 kW and 800 Nm of torque which is sent to the rear wheels. This results in a 0-100 km/h sprint being completed in 3.5 seconds and a top speed of 325 km/h.
However, it is in the way that the DB12 utilises the power. For the first time, the DB comes fitted with an electronic rear differential which is linked to the Electronic Stability Control system. This results in the differential being able to respond in mere milliseconds for more predictable handling dynamics and cornering abilities during spirited sprints.
This is further complemented by the intelligent adaptive dampers which now offer a 500% increase in bandwidth of force distribution. This means that the vehicle’s dynamics noticeably change depending on the driving mode selected and results in a comfortable drive when in normal driving mode and a stiff suspension setup when Sport or Sport+ is selected.
