Andreas Seidl is set to leave his role at McLaren in order to join Sauber amid an F1 managerial merry-go-round.
First reported by Australian outlet Speedcafe and since by RacingNews365, Seidl is poised to quit McLaren to take up the role of CEO at Sauber.
The deal is believed to have been orchestrated by Audi, who recently finalised a deal to buy into Sauber and make the team their works F1 entry in 2026.
Seidl would effectively replace Frederic Vasseur, the current boss of the Sauber-led Alfa Romeo outfit, who was officially named as Ferrari’s new team principal on Tuesday, replacing Mattia Binotto.
Prior to joining McLaren in 2019, Seidl previously spearheaded Porsche’s World Endurance Championship team, as well as working alongside current Audi CEO Markus Duesmann at Sauber under the team’s previous association with BMW in the 2000s.
If the German’s shock departure from McLaren is confirmed, Seidl would be the third team principal to leave his position in less than a month, with Williams announcing on Monday that Jost Capito will stand down at the end of the year.
Capito previously carried out a brief stint as CEO of McLaren in 2016 but is not thought to be in contention to replace Seidl, according to RacingNews365.
