We have the what and when on the new fall sales event, as well as some deals you can score right now.
Like your favorite books and movies, sometimes a shopping holiday is so good it deserves a sequel. That’s right, after a particularly robust Prime Day 2022 this past summer, where over 60,000 items per minute were sold to Amazon Prime shoppers during the 2-day event, rumors began circulating about a second Prime Day-style event in the fall.
Now, Amazon has officially confirmed the Prime Early Access Sale, which will give Prime subscribers an early start on their holiday season shopping. Details are still emerging, but we’ve compiled everything you need to know about this new shopping event, and we’ll keep updating you as more info becomes clear.
What Is Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale?
Since this is the first time Amazon is offering an Early Access Sale like this, we don’t have past precedent to work off of the way we would for a new installment of summer’s annual Prime Day. We do know it will be another 2-day event packed with sales largely exclusive to Amazon Prime members.
Shoppers can expect major markdowns across all categories, from big-ticket tech like TVs and laptops to smaller gift-able items like books and cosmetics, with an eye toward the holiday season. Other benefits for Prime members during this event include free trials of GrubHub+ and Amazon Music. And, of course, fans of Amazon’s own wide-ranging brands, from Alexas and Kindles to Fire TVs, can anticipate some stellar savings as well.
When Is Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale?
It’s official: Amazon’s Prime Early Access Sale will be live this year on Oct. 11 and 12.
Although this new autumn Amazon event may seem out of the blue, it isn’t entirely unprecedented. While Prime Day has traditionally taken place during July, 2020’s COVID pandemic forced Amazon to delay that year’s Prime Day to October.
Obviously, something about a sales event closer to the holiday season clicked with shoppers, who could get a jump on Black Friday-level deals without all the hectic hassle that comes with Black Friday shopping. So while Amazon returned to their summer Prime Day dates the following year, they clearly kept their eye on October, and this year planted the flag for their new fall sales event on Oct. 11 and 12, 2022.
Do You Have to Be a Prime Member to Shop This Event?
The short answer? Yes! In a few months, there will be holiday shopping sales open to everyone, but if you want to access these super-early seasonal savings, you’ve got to be a Prime Day member.
Of course, as is the case with Prime Day in the summer, such a major sales event can also mean markdowns across the site outside the event itself, meaning even those who aren’t Prime members can still pick up a deal or two. That said, with year-round benefits like free 2-day shipping and a robust streaming library, in addition to access to events like these, it’s definitely worth it to score yourself a Prime membership now.
Like Prime Day in July, we anticipate an array of deals when the event kicks off that fall into two categories: Lightning Deals and Spotlight Deals. What’s the difference?
Lightning Deals offer only a limited time to save on hot items, with a countdown clock showing you just how much time you have left to get the deal before the item jumps back to full price.
Spotlight Deals, on the other hand, stay at their sale price until the item sells out — but that doesn’t mean you can sit back and relax. Spotlight Deal items tend to sell out quickly during Amazon sales events, and once it’s gone, it’s gone. So if you have your eye on a Spotlight Deals item, odds are others do too, so click Add to Cart fast before someone else does.
