The new hardcore Alpine A110R will be revealed on October 4th
This is our first look at the new hardcore Alpine A110R, a lighter and more track-focused take on the brilliant sports car from Dieppe. So far it’s only been teased by a collection of graphics that show-off new parts set to be fitted but it’s clear the new A110R will be a big step on from the existing Alpine A110S.
From the first image, we can see that the A110R will feature new bodywork including a vented bonnet, new roof skin and solid engine cover. While we can’t say for certain that these elements will be constructed from carbonfibre, it’s a solid assumption considering the material is already extensively used on lesser A110s.
There are new aero devices underneath the car, with a new front splitter, side skirts and a much larger rear diffuser that looks to be balanced out by a larger rear wing set above. The rear wing also looks to be top-mounted on swan-neck supports, milled from a metallic material, most likely aluminium.
No details have been given about what to expect under the new solid rear engine cover, but we suspect few if any power gains have been made from the standard 296bhp turbocharged 1.8-litre four-cylinder engine. This is due largely to the fact that the dual-clutch transmission is already at its 251lb ft torque cap. Instead, we think the exhaust system will be a focus, reducing weight from the back of the chassis and raising the engine’s voice.

Also visible in the released graphics is a new fixed-back bucket seat that replaces the standard car’s brilliant Sabelt units. Once again, we can’t confirm that these will be constructed out of carbonfibre, but judging by the shape and structure of the seats it’s clear they will represent a further weight saving, as well as integrating a set of six-point harnesses.
Alpine has also released a graphic of a front wheelhub, showing off what looks to be a new remote reservoir damper sitting within a coil spring. The brake package looks similar to the current setup – one that’s likely to only be more effective if the A110R’s weight has decreased – but the two wheel designs are new.
We’ll have to wait until October 4th to see the car in full in the lead up to the 2022 Japanese F1 round, but until then we can get excited about the prospect of what will be the most aggressive and focused A110 variant yet.
