Alfa Romeo is the latest premium brand to increase its warranty term to five years in a bid to improve its standing with customers.
The Italian carmaker, owned by global giant Stellantis, previously offered a three-year/150,000km term in Australia, but has upped it to five years and unlimited kilometres as of April 22, 2022.
It is part of Alfa Romeo’s “Head & Heart Promise” campaign that’s aimed at giving buyers confidence in its products.
As part of this plan, the roadside assistance offering has also increased from three years to five.
Alfa is now on par with the majority of other premium brands that also offer a five-year/unlimited kilometre warranty in Australia, including Audi, Mercedes-Benz, Lexus, Genesis, Jaguar, Land Rover and Volvo.
However, BMW (and its Mini sister brand) and Porsche remain the holdouts. The two German carmakers still only offer a three-year warranty on most models.
As CarsGuide reported in 2019, the then CEO of BMW Group Australia, Vikram Pawah, said that buyers were not asking for a longer warranty period.
“It’s just not an issue for us, or for our customers,” he said at the time.
According to Alfa Romeo Australia director of aftersales and customer experience, Stephen Lester, the new warranty will benefit the brand’s passionate customers.
“We are focused on fully strengthening our customer commitment in Australia and by introducing this competitive ownership proposition, we will ensure our valued customers benefit from added peace-of-mind, not only at the time of purchase, but for many years to come,” he said.
“Our cars represent a uniquely emotional investment and we’re making the experience more appealing than ever before with added value and increased reassurance.”
Alfa Romeo currently only sells two models in Australia – the Giulia mid-size sedan and the mechanically related Stelvio SUV.
The new Tolane small SUV is expected to roll into showrooms in the first half of 2023.
