ALD Automotive and ChargePoint want to establish an electric Mobility Service Provider (eMSP) dedicated to corporate fleet electrification. The aim is to offer charging solutions across Europe for company fleets from the ChargePoint portfolio, including billing options.
The new joint eMSP will be headquartered in the Paris region and go live before the year ends. Services will launch first in France and the Netherlands, followed closely by Belgium and Germany. Eventually, Italy, the UK, Sweden, Spain, Austria, Denmark, Finland and Norway will follow by 2025.
The parties further expect that the new business will be progressively extended to more countries over time, as well as to small and medium companies, leasing companies and private clients. The statement also mentions carbon brokerage services (vehicle to grid, carbon credit) in the medium term.
The new EV charging business also reinforces the cooperation between ALD Automotive and ChargePoint. The partnership had stood since 2019 when the British fleet service provider asked the US company to bring its services to ALD clients in more than nine European markets.
“With this agreement, we are expanding our relationship with ALD Automotive and enabling more businesses to electrify their fleets,” said Pasquale Romano, CEO of ChargePoint.
Like a fuel card, company car drivers can charge at more than 485,000 charging points in Europe with one app or charge card. Home and workplace charging is included, with costs presented in one consolidated report.
In addition, fleet managers will have access to one dashboard and simple invoicing. This is “particularly relevant for fleet managers who manage their EV fleets through multi-leasing companies and charging wall box providers,” writes ALD.
“With ChargePoint, our goal is to simplify and facilitate access to EV charging services for corporate fleets,” adds Tim Albertsen, CEO of ALD.
ALD Automotive is the leasing and mobility subsidiary of the French central bank Société Générale. It acquired competitor LeasePlan for €4.9 bn in January 2022 to form NewALD and grow primarily with e-mobility services. The company oversees about 3.5 million vehicles and one of the largest electric vehicle fleets.
