The Aiways U5 electric SUV has entered four new European markets simultaneously in 2022 – Iceland, Faroe Islands, Slovenia, and Croatia, expanding the brand’s footprint to 14 countries in the continent. Until now, it was available in Sweden, Switzerland, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Belgium, Spain, Denmark, and Portugal.
The U5 is Aiways’ only product currently under production. Following Europe, the Chinese automaker wants to enter the Middle East.

Powertrain
Aiways says that the U5’s E-Drive system, which includes the electric motor, gearbox, and inverter, is mounted at the front, but technically it is possible to have a rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive drivetrain layout.
For now, though, FWD is the standard drivetrain layout. The single motor generates 150 kW (204 PS/201 hp) and 310 Nm of torque. A 63 kWh battery pack is the energy source, and it allows a range of 400 km (WLTP) or 410 km (WLTP), depending on the trim. Fast-charging from 20-80% SoC using a 90 kW DC charger takes 35 minutes. Normally charging it from 0-100% SoC using a 6.6 kW AC charger is a lengthy process of 10 hours.
Future launches
Aiways says that it will launch one new model in Europe every year. This year’s launch will be the Aiways U6 SUV-coupe, for which the company is currently conducting a roadshow with a near-series concept called U6ion. The roadshow started in Belgium on 2 March 2022, and it will move through Sweden, Germany, Denmark, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, and others over the coming weeks and months.
