We can’t get enough of modified and off-road ready Porsches and the latest is the customisable 964 generation 911 Safari Sportsman by Russell Built Fabrication. Like most other Stuttgart creations converted for treacherous terrain, this too comes with a big price tag.
Originally debuting by Russell Built Fabrication at the 2019 SEMA Show with its Baja Spec Porsche 911, the project eventually entered production and its final result was a marketing success. Now, Russel Built is back with a 964 generation 911 Safari Sportsman which follows the same recipe with a slightly more affordable price tag than its predecessor.
The 964 generation 911 Safari Sportsman is customisable to each customer’s taste, from engine and transmission, to interior upgrades and exterior add-ons. The 3.8-litre motor can be stroked up to 4-litres and produce as much as 298 kW if desired. Buyers can also choose between two different roof racks, a rear-seat delete package, carbon-covered rally lights, steel bumpers and an oil cooler/AC condenser relocation kit.
What remains equal on all of the models is the re-engineered suspension setup which includes an integrated rear subframe with box plate steel trailing arms and King Shocks internal bypass coilovers. This means that the Stuttgart born off-roader now has as much as 254 mm of rear-wheel travel.

Of course, to match all of this mechanical improvement, the exterior too has been prepared to allude to its off-road capabilities. A widebody kit lines the wheel arches of the 964 generation 911 Safari Sportsman while skid plates and tastefully modified rims form part of some of the other details. The newcomer in their range will start from as little as $135,000 with TJ Russell, the company’s founder, stating this was “something more obtainable” for 964 owners considering most of the accessories and upgrades are bolt on.
