Most automakers identify their plug-in hybrids with “PHEV” in the name. However, some brands switch things up by adding letters or numbers to their partially electrified models’ monikers. Even more confusing, some companies use entirely new model names for their PHEVs. Here are nine hidden PHEVs you might have missed because of their unique model names.

1. Bentley Bentayga Hybrid

— Car and Driver (@CARandDRIVER) September 28, 2022

Despite its name, this Bentley Bentayga is a PHEV instead of a standard hybrid. The 2022 Bentayga Hybrid has 28 miles of range and harnesses 456 bhp. Bentley boasts this model can reach 156 mph.

However, the luxury automaker isn’t taking reservations for the Bentayga Hybrid now. Car and Driver gave the Bentayga Hybrid a glowing review for its plush ride and upscale cabin, offering plenty of customization options for the $162,725 MSRP.

2. Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid

Despite its name, the Pacifica Hybrid is a PHEV that can go 32 miles on electric power alone. Chrysler says the Pacifica Hybrid minivan gets 520 miles of range total and makes 260 hp. It also has ample room for seven riders and a seating layout with 81 possible configurations.

3. Ferrari SF90

Nothing about this supercar’s name indicates it’s a PHEV, and it has a subpar electric-only range of 16 miles. But the Ferrari SF90 makes up for that drawback with a stout V8 and three electric motors producing 986 hp and 590 lb-ft of torque. Ferrari claims the SF90 Stradale can hit 60 mph in just 2.5 seconds.

4. Jeep Grand Cherokee 4xe

Most consumers don’t know Jeep uses the term “4xe” for its models with PHEV powertrains. The Grand Cherokee 4xe has 25 miles of electric range. This model can still tow 6,000 pounds, only 200 pounds less than the non-hybrid Jeep Grand Cherokee.

5. Jeep Wrangler 4xe

Jeep says the Wrangler 4xe gets 21 miles of range in EV Mode. Even in an off-road setting, the Wrangler Rubicon 4xe remains quiet while effortlessly crawling over rocks.

6. Karma GS-6

Many consumers might assume the Karma GS-6 is fully electric or lacks electrification. Karma advertises an electric-only range of 61 miles for this PHEV, nearly double what most rivals get.

Progressive says the average PHEV’s range falls between 10 and 30 miles. Karma also advertises touch-sensitive interior technology and a recharging time of only 34 minutes.

7. Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid

Though the Subaru Crosstrek Hybrid is a PHEV, its 17-mile electric-only range is slightly disappointing. However, Subaru says the Crosstrek Hybrid can re-juice while driving with Battery Charge Mode engaged. This PHEV also had standard AWD and the latest version of Subaru’s EyeSight safety suite.

8. Toyota RAV4 Prime

We wouldn’t blame you if you didn’t know that “Prime” is Toyota’s term for “PHEV.” The RAV4 Prime boasts a generous 42 miles of electric range. Drivers can also enjoy a hearty 302-hp four-cylinder engine and wireless smartphone integration.

9. Toyota Prius Prime

Unlike its PHEV sibling, the Toyota Prius Prime gets only 25 miles of electric range in EV Mode. But it’s one of the cheapest PHEVs, starting at only $28,770. Plus, it comes with many standard features. However, with only 121 hp on tap, this PHEV has sluggish acceleration that could frustrate drivers.
