It’s coming to the Goodwood Festival of Speed but don’t expect the Travis Pastrana driven 634 kW model to be hauling a family and their suitcases around. This 80s Subaru GL Wagon is far from stock.

That’s because a state-of-the-art tubular space frame sits beneath a carbon fibre body which only signifies an 80s Subaru GL Wagon. The collaboration between Subaru, Hoonigan and Travis Pastrana has finally gone public after it was revealed at the beginning of the year. The box shaped wagon will make its public debut at this year’s edition of the Goodwood Festival of Speed which is taking place in less than a week.

The 80s Subaru GL Wagon named the “Family Huckster” comes with a 634 kW four-cylinder boxer motor which is paired to a six-speed sequential gearbox and all-wheel drive although the trio is tight-lipped about the list of modifications. What we can mention is the standout active aero feature with a big rear wing which works alongside aero flaps on the front and rear fenders. That roof rack on top of the long wedge isn’t to load luggage onto but rather helps direct air into a NACA duct onto the roof that feeds the rear mounted radiator.

Forged KMC Wheels, custom one-offs sit on each corner of the car and then connect to the chassis via World Rally Championship-spec long-travel suspension. The design is a retro take on Subaru model wheels from the 1980s.

Believe it or not, another retro cue also made its way onto the interior with an authentic radio from a 1983 GL wagon, fitted into the bespoke race-spec dashboard. In addition to this the car also features a 12-inch digital instrument cluster that shows retro gauges.

While he might not be jumping the 80s Subaru GL Wagon around for the crowds of Goodwood like he normally does, the public debut of the purpose built monster will take place at the famous hill climb competition. With its serious power capabilities, Pastrana has a shot of placing on the podium yet again.
