The 2023 model year began in the fall, just like every other automotive model year in recent history. Just because the model year began, doesn’t mean Consumer Reports has tested and reviewed every vehicle. There are still several EVs from 2023 awaiting the ratings from this expert organization. Could some of these models take over some of the top spots?
What five EVs for 2023 have no Consumer Reports ratings?
Actually, there are more than five electric vehicles for the current model year that haven’t been rated by Consumer Reports. That said, five of them have caught our attention as models we want to pay close attention to. These five are:
- Audi E-Tron GT
- BMW i4
- BMW i7
- BMW iX
- Cadillac Lyriq
Notice anything similar about these five models? All five are luxury-level electric vehicles. The ratings should be available for the BMW i4 and iX soon, both are currently in the testing phase.
Why should we pay attention to these five electric vehicles?
Audi E-Tron
Gray 2023 Audi E-Tron SUV | Audi
The Audi E-Tron is the electric flagship SUV for the Volkswagen Group. Currently, we see two EVs offered from this family of car brands, the Audi E-Tron, and the Porsche Taycan. Expectations are high for the Audi to be a consumer favorite. Currently, the VW Group is asking what’s next for Audi, especially with BMW and Mercedes-Benz offering several electric vehicles.
BMW i4
Rear-quarter shot of the BMW i4 | BMW
The BMW i4 isn’t a second take on the quirky i3; it’s an electric alternative to the 4 Series. This low-slung sports sedan provides a coupe-like build and a large hatchback to make it an athletic and adventurous electric sedan. Could this become the top-rated electric car? Possibly.
BMW i7
2023 BMW i7 Sedan | BMW
Another alternative to one of the top-level BMW sedans is the new 2023 BMW i7. Once we have the 2023 EV rating for this car, we’ll have a better understanding of whether it can carry onward with the prestige and excellence found in the venerable 7 Series. The EV model looks similar to its traditional counterpart but uses a large battery pack and two electric motors.
BMW iX
The BMW iX M60 | BMW Group
The 2023 BMW iX is the second model year for this electric SUV. This Beemer took the world by storm as the first long-range EV from the brand. The iX proved that BMW was done experimenting and was serious about building highly-competitive electric vehicles. This EV is similar in size to the X5 SUV, offering five roomy seats and an abundance of high-end technology.
Cadillac Lyriq
Cadillac Lyriq | Cadillac
The 2023 Cadillac Lyriq represents this luxury brand’s first entry into the EV world. The 2023 EV rating from Consumer Reports could show the Lyriq as a top-level electric SUV. This new model brings two different drivetrain options and offers the luxury quality and driving range expected of a highly competitive luxury electric SUV.
What will be the best electric car in 2023?

This small electric SUV hits the right notes with a long driving range, top-end electronics, and a spacious cabin.
