While the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek may be a year newer than the 2022 version of the Crosstrek, Subaru hasn’t made that many changes to the model. As a result, Consumer Reports still recommends the Crosstrek, and the compact SUV has many of the same great features that the older version of the Crosstrek has. One of the best things about the 2023 Subaru Crosstrek is its ride quality. In fact, Consumer Reports wrote that the Crosstrek’s ride quality is much better than its peers. Despite being an SUV that starts at $24,000, its ride quality is comparable to that of many luxury cars.
Drivers and their passengers will feel few of the road’s bumps when they’re in the Crosstrek. On top of that, this Subaru SUV has excellent ride quality both on roads and off-road. This is particularly important because Subarus are well-known for their off-roading capability, and, unsurprisingly, the Crosstrek is a capable vehicle off-road.
2. It has a great fuel economy compared to its competitors
Another great thing about the Subaru Crosstrek is its fuel economy. Subaru offers a hybrid option for the Crosstrek, but even the gas-powered option has a good fuel economy for its class. This is especially true when the Subaru is compared to its peers. The standard Crosstrek starts with a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine with 152 horsepower. Higher trims get a 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine with 182 hp. Finally, the hybrid option gets 148 hp.
All Crosstreks come with all-wheel drive, and there’s an option between a CVT and a six-speed manual transmission. Taken together, the standard Crosstrek with a CVT gets 28 mpg in the city and 33 mpg on highways, for 31 mpg combined. The bigger 2.5-liter engine has a similar fuel economy of 27 mpg in the city and 34 on highways, for 31 mpg combined.
The plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version can go 17 miles on battery power alone and gets about 90 MPGe combined. In comparison, its peers, such as the Hyundai Kona, only get about 26 mpg combined.
3. The Crosstrek has easy-to-use interior controls
In addition to being a very fuel-efficient vehicle, the Subaru Crosstrek’s interior controls are well-designed and easy to use. The Subaru comes with a 6.5-inch touch screen, and its infotainment system is compatible with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
Furthermore, the car’s gauges are easy-to-read, and the touch screen is user-friendly. In fact, Consumer Reports described the controls on the Crosstrek’s infotainment system as “logical to use and well placed.” That being said, there is a minor and annoying issue with the climate control system. After someone adjusts the car’s temperature, the display will disappear for a few seconds.
4. The 2023 Subaru Crosstrek has great, responsive brakes
Consumer Reports also really liked the Subaru Crosstrek’s brakes. In fact, the car critic gave the Subaru SUV a perfect score for its braking system. Not only did the brakes have a good feel, but when drivers put their foot down, the Crosstrek can come to a complete stop in a relatively short distance.
The braking tests took the Crosstrek 125 feet to reach a full stop from 60 mph while on dry land. On wet roads, it took the Subaru 136 feet. The hybrid version of the Crosstrek had similar results in the brake test. It only needed 129 feet to come to a complete stop on dry land and 136 feet on wet ground.
