Local car fans may be left disappointed to see four recently-announced cars will not make their way to South Africa.
These new vehicles are the:
- Opel Astra
- Abarth F595
- Hyundai Elantra N
- Subaru Outback Wilderness
We take a look at what South Africa is missing out on, below.
Opel Astra
This new Opel Astra introduces a hybrid option to the range, along with the traditional internal combustion engines.
The Astra also receives a vastly different design, with a more aggressive look thanks to a shorter front overhang and angular features.
Its interior is updated, too, with a 10-inch digital instrument cluster and 10-inch infotainment display forming what Opel calls a “human-machine interface”.
Abarth F595
The Abarth F595 is a special edition that was made to commemorate Abarth’s involvement in Formula 4.
It features a 1.4-litre, four-cylinder engine – on which the Formula 4 single-seater race car engine is based – and produces 123kW and 230Nm in the F595.
To set itself apart, the F595 has special design cues such as “Rally Blue” colouring on the mirrors, and front and rear bumpers.
Hyundai Elantra N
The Elantra N is a high-performance sedan that comes with a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder engine providing 206kW and 392Nm.
This power can be temporarily increased to 215kW through the car’s overboost function available via the “Grin Shift” mode.
Hyundai continues this performance focus on the inside, with Sport seats and an upgraded steering wheel with paddle shifters coming as standard.
Subaru Outback Wilderness
Subaru said the new Outback Wilderness is “the most rugged and capable Outback in history.”
To help live up to these claims, the Outback Wilderness receives a 241mm ground clearance, a front skid plate, upgraded suspension, and all-terrain tyres.
Power is then provided from a 2.4-litre turbocharged boxer engine with 194kW and 376Nm.
South Africa is not the only country not receiving the Outback Wilderness, however, as Subaru South Africa stated the model is “only available in the US and Canada”.
