The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport hasn’t changed much since its 2022 model, at least in the eyes of Consumer Reports, which continues to give the car high ratings and a recommendation. Three factors, in particular, contribute to Consumer Reports’ recommendation of the Atlas Cross Sport. Curious what these might be? Let’s find out what this Volkswagen SUV has to offer.

1. The 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport has tons of interior room

While the Atlas Cross Sport is a modified two-row version of the three-row Atlas, that doesn’t mean it’s not comfortable to ride in. Far from it. One of the reasons that Consumer Reports especially recommends the Atlas Cross Sport is all its interior room.

The SUV gets very high marks for rear seat comfort. This is thanks in part to its 60 inches of rear shoulder room, 32 inches of rear leg room, and 2 inches of rear headroom. All this leads Consumer Reports to note that “the rear seat has considerably more legroom than the three-row Atlas.”

Front seat comfort also gets pretty high marks. Drivers and front seat passengers can enjoy 61 inches of shoulder room, 42.5 inches of leg room, and 5 inches of headroom.

2. Consumer Reports loves that the Atlas Cross Sport is easy to enter

With some SUVs, getting into and out of the vehicle can be a real challenge. However, Consumer Reports declares that that’s not the case with the Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport.

As CR put it in the site’s Road Test Report, “Large door openings and easy-to-reach seats make for easy front access without any ducking. The rear seat has even larger openings—vehicle entry and exit doesn’t get much better than this.”

So if accessibility concerns you, or you don’t want to feel that you have to perform acrobatics to get into your vehicle, the Atlas Cross Sport definitely merits a look.

3. The 2023 VW Atlas Cross Sport has very intuitive interior controls

So, the 2023 Volkswagen Atlas Cross Sport is comfortable, roomy, and easy to enter. Sounds great, right? According to Consumer Reports, the pros of buying one of these Volkswagen SUVs don’t stop there.

Another advantage that the Atlas Cross Sport offers is the ease with which one can use all the interior controls, which Consumer Reports calls a “model of clarity.” The touchscreen infotainment system merited particular praise, with CR’s test drivers noting that the display was clear, the buttons and on-screen text were sufficiently sized, and the layout was intuitive.

Of course, nothing is perfect, and the interior controls on the Atlas Cross Sport are no exception. We’d be remiss if we didn’t note that Consumer Reports also had a few critical comments in this area. One annoyance the reviewers called out was the fact that pushing the volume knob turns off the entire display screen rather than simply muting the sound. Then there’s the fact that the audio can start replaying unexpectedly when the car is restarted if it’s been previously muted. Finally, with the audio preset list on the Atlas Cross Sport, it’s not possible to mix bands, which means that you can’t, for example, preset both FM and satellite radio stations.

These minor issues aside, anyone looking for a smaller yet still roomy and comfortable SUV would do well to look at the Volkswagen Cross Sport. It’s made for people who want to get up and running with their new vehicle with little hassle.
