It's a matchup between turbocharged power and naturally aspirated with NOS.
Drag racing can get repetitive at times, but there are matchups that deserve attention. The boys at Hoonigan are at it again with their latest episode of the “This and That” series. They're still in the Land Down Under just like their previous drag race but they've got another special rivalry in store this time around.
Meeting at the line is a 1993 Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R and a 1975 Holden LH Torana. What's interesting about these cars goes beyond the looks; there's a lot going on under the hood that's worth four-digit horsepower numbers.
Alex, the owner of the Nissan R32 Skyline GT-R claims that it makes a healthy 1,100 turbocharged hp. The car weighs about 3,500 lbs and boasts a six-speed sequential transmission as well as an array of modifications, including an RB30 block, Garret G45 1500 turbo, and a vented carbon hood. His exploits are well documented on his MotiveVideo YouTube channel.
On the other side was Johnny Habib, the owner of the wheelie-flipping 1975 Holden LH Torana, generating a staggering 1,000 hp from its naturally aspirated 9.6-liter V8 engine. Powered by a conventional 588 big-block Chevy engine with a 400 shot of nitrous, the Torana relies on a 2-speed automatic transmission to deliver its raw power to the rear wheels.

Car nuts will know what the R32 Skyline can do. Even with the later Nissan GT-R R35 influencing the sports car market, the classic Godzilla still has a massive cult following. Nissan is even flirting with the idea of re-releasing the car with an electric powertrain. However, not much is known about the Torana outside the land of the Southern Cross.
With a word that supposedly means “to fly” in native Aborigine tongue, the closest we have that might even remotely be related to the Holden is the Pontiac Sunbird but only to a certain extent. Some Toranas have even sold quite handsomely in classic car markets, but it is unmistakably Australian as a Vegemite sandwich.
Watch the video to find out if the classic Aussie muscle has what it takes to beat the AWD beast from the far east.
