A shadowy teaser gives us an idea of what to expect.
Mercedes-Benz has released a teaser image of the facelifted GLE-Class SUV and Coupe ahead of the reveal on January 31.
Both vehicles are concealed by trick lighting, but that doesn't mean we can't see any updates. The front end has gained several changes, chief among which are slimmer headlights with a revised DRL design. It appears the midsize SUV will gain the brand's star grille, as worn by the revised CLA-Class models.
We anticipate the German automaker will provide the high-riding luxury car with a subtly amended front bumper. This would tie the styling in rather nicely with the existing models, such as the new GLC-Class and the top-end S-Class luxury sedan.

We don't get to see the rear end of the SUV, but Mercedes has given us a glimpse of the Coupe derivative. The taillight cluster now features a redesigned DRL, along with what appears to be a slightly fettled lower rear fascia. We wouldn't be surprised if Benz keeps the changes to a minimum, as we've seen with the aforementioned CLA-Class.
We've seen mildly disguised prototype vehicles swanning about over the past year or two, suggesting that Mercedes-Benz has put a significant amount of work into the facelifted model. Inside, we expect the GLE to receive a few new touches, including an updated steering wheel and, perhaps, an enhanced version of the MBUX infotainment system.
Perhaps the interior will also benefit from plusher materials, as one or two trim pieces leave a lot to be desired.
Under the skin, we hope Mercedes-Benz has worked on the suspension system. While far from being uncomfortable, the GLE has always tended to fidget on anything but perfect road surfaces. We anticipate the midsize SUV will retain its current engine options, which include the 255-horsepower, turbocharged 2.0-liter in the GLE 350, the 362-hp GLE 450, and the 483-hp GLE 580.
There's no word yet on whether the updated AMG models will be revealed simultaneously, but we'll see on January 31.
Mercedes-Benz won't have the spotlight to itself. BMW's updated X5 was recently leaked, and while we have yet to get a complete look, the images show a thoroughly changed front end and rear. These historic rivals will undoubtedly be better than ever before, but which one will be the most polished? That remains to be seen.
