Maserati is bringing back the GranTurismo, its MC20-esque GT car. However, instead of the MC20’s mid-engine setup, the GranTurismo rides on a front-engine application. That’s good news for fans of the waning supply of 2+2 grand tourers on the market. Still, the upcoming 2024 model isn’t the same as the last iterations of the GranTurismo.

The GranTurismo ditches the Ferrari-derived naturally aspirated 4.7L V8 engine for a new 3.0L V6. That twin-turbocharged V6, named Nettuno, produces 483 horsepower in the entry-level Modena and 542 horsepower in the Trofeo trim, Car and Driver reports. Surprisingly, the engine utilizes a wet-sump oil setup and a cylinder deactivation feature, suggesting the car has an eco-focus from the start.

However, the shocking development out of Maserati is the marque’s first EV GT car on its modular platform. The GranTurismo Folgore will use an 800-volt setup with three electric motors and DC fast-charging capability. The result: an AWD 750-horsepower GT car with a claimed range of 250 miles on a single charge. Better yet, Maserati says there’s a selectable mode that facilitates RWD.
How fast will the 2024 Maserati GranTurismo be?
You’d expect speed with horsepower figures as high as 750 and words like “twin-turbocharged” in the mix. You’d be right; the new GranTurismo isn’t just striking. The entry-level 2024 Maserati GranTurismo Modena will hit 60 mph in an estimated 3.9 seconds on its way to a top speed of 188 mph. Things get even swifter with the Trofeo, which Maserati estimates will sprint to 60 mph in just 3.5 seconds with a top speed of 199 mph.

However, the three-motor, slide-ready EV promises snappier performance. Maserati says the upcoming Folgore, or “Lightning,” will sprint from 0 to 60 mph in 2.7 seconds. Moreover, Maserati’s EV GT car will climb to 124 mph in a claimed 8.8 seconds. Finally, the Folgore promises to match the Trofeo’s top speed of 199 mph.
Is it worth it?
The upcoming 2024 Maserati GranTurismo will bring breathtakingly beautiful lines, grand tourer usability, and more eco-friendly performance to the marque’s lineup. However, the market already features many hybrid supercars and hypercars, like the McLaren Artura, which promises to outrun the Maserati in every metric. However, there is a magical quality to the stunning front-engine Maserati GT car and its 3D-printed badge. Still, many fans will surely miss the operatic sound of the old Ferrari V8 heart.
