Sharpened Mustang will arrive Down Under early next year, alongside the new-generation pony car
The 2024 Ford Mustang RTR Spec 2 has been revealed in the US and, as expected, it adds a new level of menace and capability to the upcoming 2024 Ford Mustang Dark Horse flagship – and Aussies will be able to get in on the action.
Mustang Motorsport, the local distributor for RTR performance parts and vehicles, has confirmed the early 2024 availability of the RTR Ford Mustang package, which at this stage has only been revealed in intermediate Spec 2 guise, and it has already started taking expressions of interest.
Debuted overnight in the US, the RTR Mustang takes the already intense-looking Dark Horse and dials things up to 11 with a series of cosmetic and chassis enhancements designed to extract the most from the new flagship Mustang and its upgraded hardware.
The new look is dominated by an illuminated grille and continued via new splitters, spoilers, a grille mesh, bonnet vents, bespoke badging and badging, and 20-inch wheels with high-performance Nitto NT555 G2 tyres, with the whole package sitting closer to the deck on RTR lowered springs.
The new coils are matched with specially-developed adjustable sway bars, dampers and rear shock mounts, which combine with the sticky tyres to sharpen up the body control and give the enhanced Mustang a tougher stance on the road.
“We treated the OEM sheet metal from Ford as drapery, with the RTR components pushing themselves outward through the Mustang’s volumes and inviting you into the experience,” said RTR Vehicles lead designer and creative director Lindsay Ross.
Changes have also been made within the cabin, where customers will be treated to a performance gear shifter, RTR floor mats and a serialised plaque inscribed with the signature of RTR’s Formula Drift driver Vaughn Gittin Jr.
The Spec 2 pack will cost $US12,495 ($A19,122) when it goes on sale in North America alongside the new Mustang in the coming months. A similar roll-out is on the cards for Australia, where Ford has just pushed the S650 Mustang’s local release back to the first quarter of 2024.
Future RTR packages will blend the enhanced styling (Spec 1) and chassis (Spec 2) packages with more firepower courtesy of a supercharger kit – something that should give Aussie Mustang fans something to cheer about in the absence of Shelby Mustang variants in this market.
Local pricing for the RTR Mustang upgrades will be announced closer to their arrival next year.
