Specs and pics of Cadillac’s second EV, the Optiq – specifically power figures, dimensions, and press images – leaked online mid-July, allegedly out of a government ministry in China, where the SUV will initially go on sale. Slotting in above the smaller (gas-powered) XT5 and below the larger (EV) Lyriq, the latest electric vehicle from General Motors’ luxury division should hit the Chinese market some time between now and December 31, 2023 as a 2024 model, suggests information from Drive.
China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology let loose some dimension details for the Optiq: the sport-ute comes in at 4,822 mm (189.8 inches) long; 1,912 mm (75.3 inches) wide; and 1,642 mm (64.6 inches) tall, with a wheelbase of 2,954 mm (116.3 inches). It’s 174 mm (6.9 inches) shorter than the Lyriq, but quite close, size-wise, to the XT5 (which is 189.6 inches or 4,815 mm long, with a 112.5-inch or 2,857-mm wheelbase).
The exterior sees a face defined by a small-ish grille on the top portion and black plastic aplenty below it, as well as L-shaped vertical headlights and horizontal DRLs. Out back, there are also-vertical taillights, and the doors apparently get flush-mounted handles. The published images make it difficult to see a rear wiper on the back window, if there in fact is one at all.

Power-wise, Chinese-market Optiqs will see only a single electric motor, with two power-output options. Buyers can get either a 201- or 241-horsepower version, both limited to a top speed of 180 km/h (112 mph). Zero info on the battery specifics have been doled out yet; however, the lithium-ion battery pack is reportedly sourced from SAIC-CATL.
The Optiq is the first in a trio of all-new Cadillac EVs scheduled to debut for 2023, with the Escalade IQ, the long-awaited battery-powered version of its flagship SUV, due out in August; and a yet-unnamed three-row midsize SUV also in the wings. With siblings like the Lyriq and Celestiq already on sale in North America, we’d be shocked if GM kept the Optiq out of Canada, seeing as it’d be a perfect fit for the automaker’s Ultium platform (and all the various vehicles we’re getting based on it). In China, the 2024 Cadillac Optiq will be manufactured in Wuhan, China by SAIC, as part of the joint venture with GM.
