The Buick Encore GX is getting a major refresh for the 2024 model year, and it’s more than just the badge.
No, the ‘24 Encore GX boasts new exterior views, including revamped front-end styling, plus a more modern interior a la additional tech. That being said, the GX does rock a new badge– the brand’s first North American vehicle to adopt the latest tri-shield logo.
As previously mentioned, the first thing you’ll likely notice is the reshaped face. It now features a stronger brow above an updated grille, bookended by winged LED headlights. It’s self-described as a “dynamic, forward-leaning front-end” spearheaded by the aforementioned logo. In back, the GX sports the new branding and Buick typography, LED taillights available on the ST and new-to-model Avenir trims. It all rides on new 18- or 19-inch wheels.
It’s not to say that the Encore GX’s new looks aren’t impressive, but it’s the interior where Buick buyers will, naturally, spend most of their time with their car, and as such it’s appropriately upscaled to fit the times. That means a new Virtual Cockpit System (VCS), the first Buick to adopt this technology. The VCS features an 11-inch infotainment screen and an 8-inch digital driver cluster, all encompassed by a single pane of glass and angled towards the driver. Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, and wireless device charging is available. The rest of the interior is upholstered with soft-touch materials and various stitchings.
You’ll find embossed headrests with the Avenir and ST logos on respective trims, the latter of which also receives a flat-bottom steering wheel; however, where the ST gives the Encore a more sporty vibe, the Avenir kicks things up another luxurious notch. This starts with a trim-exclusive interior– Whisper Beige and Jet Black– a heated steering wheel, air ionizer, rear view auto-dim mirror and, of course, leather seats. The driver’s seat is 10-way power adjustable; the passenger, 8-way.
Two powertrains are available. First, a 1.2-liter turbocharged engine, producing 137 horsepower and 162 lb-ft of torque, and a 1.3-liter turbocharged engine, good for 155 horsepower and 174 lb-ft of torque. All-wheel drive is available in any trim, though front-wheel drive is model standard. If you go FWD, a CVT automatic is paired up to the engine; go AWD and a 9-speed automatic is in your future.
The 2024 Buick Encore GX Preferred will start at $26,895 before delivery; Sport Touring at $28,095; Avenir at $33,195. Production begins next month, with availability beginning this spring.
