The German automaker’s BMW X6 rival will get some subtle aesthetic updates, taking inspiration from the newly updated Audi Q8 E-tron. Matrix LED lighting is one of them, along with smoother surfaces for a more elegant appearance, larger front air intakes for a more commanding presence, and a new exhaust system intended to provide a better engine sound.
The updated grille, which features a distinctive design evocative of Audi’s top-tier models, is one of the most noticeable aesthetic modifications. This grille has vertical inlays with a brushed aluminium finish, which gives it a more upscale appearance. Additionally, the body trim is colour-coordinated for the higher-end models, adding to a cleaner, simpler look.
To enhance the Q8’s commanding presence, the headlights now offer redesigned matrix LEDs that create a wider front appearance. Drivers have the flexibility to select from four distinct ‘light signatures’ through the infotainment system. These headlights incorporate an impressive 61 OLED segments, a significant increase from the 10 found on the smaller Q4 E-tron. They not only offer personalized styles for each driver but also have the capability to display specific warning signs to other road users.
The rear lights have also undergone a restyling, featuring glossy trim and integrating Audi’s new dechromed badge into the light bar. The Q8 employs Audi’s Dynamic Light function, initially introduced with the Q6 E-tron, which can project a red triangular warning symbol on the rear lights alongside the hazard lights to alert other drivers about obstructions. These updates contribute to the Q8’s bold and innovative lighting design.
Three new metallic paint options are introduced as well: Chili Red, Ascari Blue, and Sakhir Gold. Additionally, there are five new alloy wheel designs available, with sizes ranging from 21 to 23 inches.
Entering the cabin, there are several interior enhancements to explore. Customers can choose from nine decorative inlays to personalise the interior to their liking. Furthermore, there are new upholstery options to consider. Additionally, depending on the specific variant, you can opt for finishes like fine grain ash, carbon twill, and aluminium linear silver grey, further allowing for customisation to suit individual preferences.
A notable improvement in the car’s infotainment system is its newfound ability to run third-party apps. This enhancement enables drivers to stream services from platforms such as Amazon Music or Spotify, enhancing the overall connectivity and entertainment options. Furthermore, the Audi virtual cockpit display has received an upgrade with sharper graphics, enhancing the visual experience for the driver.
The SQ8 continues to use the well-known 4.0-liter, 500bhp twin-turbocharged V8 engine seen in the Porsche Cayenne Turbo and Lamborghini Urus. Cylinder deactivation technology in this engine enables it to run on just four cylinders when necessary for increased economy.
2024 Audi SQ8
The upcoming RS Q8, which is yet to be launched, is expected to receive a similar set of enhancements in the coming months. However, there is currently no information available regarding any changes to its 592bhp V8 engine.
A 3.0 litre turbocharged petrol V6 engine with 335 horsepower is used in the Q8 60 TFSI, which sits underneath the SQ8. The Q8 60 TFSI can reach 100 km/h in 5.6 seconds. Notably, all of the V6 engines in the range have mild-hybrid technology, which enables the engine to shut down and coast for up to 40 seconds when driving conditions are low in demand, improving the overall economy.
The diesel engine options from the previous iteration have been kept. A 3.0-litre V6 engine with 227hp powers the entry-level 45 TDI. The 50 TDI variation has the same engine but has it adjusted to produce 282bhp, which results in a quicker 0-100km/h speed of 6.1 seconds. These variants’ max speeds are 225km/h and 241km/h, respectively.
The 2024 Audi Q8 and SQ8 will be open for orders in Europe starting later this month. For the time being, the Malaysian market offers the Q8 variants in RS and e-tron forms.
