Launched in September 2020, the VW ID.3 hasn’t been a resounding success as Volkswagen expected. It’s selling in decent numbers, but software glitches and quality issues have held back its true potential, and a facelift is in order to address the problems and bring improvements. Here’s everything we know about the 2023 VW ID.3:
Design
The design was never an issue in the ID.3. Volkswagen came up with an exterior that makes the car quite charming and friendly, with an appeal that’s very different from the well-established Golf. Inside, the ID.3 has a low-profile, high-tech design that gives it a more spacious and sophisticated look than the Golf. It’s worth noting that this pure-electric family car, while having the footprint of the Golf, offers the same room as the Passat.
The VW ID.3 facelift will look slightly sportier than the current model. TopElectricSUV’s renderings of the new model pictured.
The 2023 VW ID.3 will have subtle changes on the outside for a fresh appearance. The front bumper will be recast without the honeycomb patterns. More aggressive C-shaped outer ends on the front bumper will give the new model a sportier style. New vertical air inlets tucked into these corner pieces will aid the wide air intake, which will be more compact.
The profile and rear-end will look the same. After all, this facelift is arriving earlier than usual. Perhaps, a more comprehensive facelift will ensue later into the lifecycle with changes in those areas.
Interior
Inside, the 2023 VW ID.3 will feature a new 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system (replacing the 10-inch unit), new door cards, and upgraded, partly sustainable materials. The standard equipment will be better and consist of the new 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system, a removable luggage compartment floor, and two cup holders in the center console.
The 2023 VW ID.3 will feature a bigger, 12-inch touchscreen infotainment system instead of the current model’s 10-inch unit. TopElectricSUV’s rendering of the new model’s interior pictured.
Unfortunately, the new steering wheel with physical controls instead of touch control buttons that Volkswagen has confirmed for other cars might not be coming with this update. That would be a shame if true, as fixing what was wrong is the whole point of this early facelift. Unlike the current model year, the 2023 ID.3 will be optionally available with Travel Assist with Swarm Data and Park Assist Plus with Memory Function.
Specifications
There’s no word on the changes to the specifications in the refreshed ID.3. We’re not expecting big news in this aspect, nothing more than efficiency-related improvements. Volkswagen already has a great package of power electronics, which it can comfortably carry over. The ID.3 is available in four variants, as detailed in the table below:

The new VW ID.3 could have improved fast charging for lower wait times at the charging station. The current model allows charging at up to 170 kW (DC).
Release Date
The 2023 VW ID.3 will debut in spring 2023 and go on sale in Germany in Q4 2023. Prices could start at around EUR 32,000 (~USD 34,000), provided it comes in the Pure Performance variant right from launch.
TopElectricSUV says
The 2023 VW ID.3 might be almost the perfect daily driver for European customers, offering solid performance, great comfort and convenience, high energy efficiency, and great value for money overall. It’s a shame that the ID.3 is not in contention for the U.S., where customers are demanding spacious and SUV-type designs.
