The Toyota Corolla Hybrid received a big, exciting update for the 2023 model year. Toyota gifted a nice refresh to the full lineup, but its popular compact hybrid car got the most out of it. The 2023 Toyota Corolla only introduced its hybrid variant a few years ago, but it’s already become a favorite of budget shoppers. When does the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid come out?
Will there be a 2023 Corolla Hybrid? We know there will be, but we’re waiting on official confirmation from Toyota for a specific 2023 Corolla Hybrid release date. However, we’re estimating that it will go on sale in late fall or winter in 2022 or early 2023.
The new model year will offer three eco-friendly trim levels—two of which are brand-new: the 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE, Hybrid SE, and Hybrid XSE. The 2022 Corolla Hybrid offered only one grade option.

How much is the 2023 Corolla Hybrid? Since the Corolla didn’t receive any major changes for the new year (besides the new AWD), we can estimate that the 2023 Toyota Corolla Hybrid’s price will remain about the same as the base model.
Models with all-wheel drive equipped will likely cost around $1,500 more than their FWD counterparts. This is similar to Toyota’s pricing model for the FWD/AWD Prius. Here are estimated prices for the new lineup:
- 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE FWD: $24,050
- 2023 Corolla Hybrid LE AWD: $25,550
- 2023 Corolla Hybrid SE FWD: $25,875
- 2023 Corolla Hybrid SE AWD: $27,375
- 2023 Corolla Hybrid XLE: $27,825
At this time, we’re not expecting to see a Nightshade Special Edition package on the Corolla Hybrid model.

The biggest change for the 2023 Corolla Hybrid is the addition of Electronic On-Demand All-Wheel Drive. This new system makes the Corolla Hybrid the only compact hybrid car with AWD. A 1.8-liter four-cylinder engine and two-motor setup, paired to a CVT, carries over for the 2023 Toyota Corolla FWD and AWD. Additional trim levels (SE and XLE) are another significant change.
What else is different? You’ll see a new front-end design on the 2023 Corolla Hybrid, but nothing major. Toyota gave its smallest hybrid sedan new LED daytime running lights and new LED headlights on select premium grades.
The 2023 Corolla Hybrid lineup also includes improved safety and driver-assistance technology—an important addition for its segment. Advanced safety tech is one of the things that make the Corolla such a great car for new drivers. The newest Corolla Hybrid receives Toyota’s next-gen Safety Sense 3.0 system.
Will there be a 2023 Corolla Plug-In Hybrid model next year?
Electric vehicles are growing in popularity, especially with recent gas prices. Although Toyota was a pioneer of the hybrid car, it’s been falling behind in EV development. Toyota offers only a handful of plug-in or all-electric cars, while other brands are stocking up on EVs. A Corolla plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) would be a welcome addition to the lineup.
However, there’s no word on Corolla PHEV development, so we likely won’t see one in 2023.
At the end of the day, is a hybrid Corolla worth it? With up to 53 mpg in the city, 52 mpg on the highway, and a nice array of standard and available features for around $24,000-$25,000, I’d have to say yes.
