Peugeot has launched the final piece of the 308 range puzzle with the new plug-in hybrid variant of the brand’s new small car range now on sale. Priced from $64,990 plus on-road costs, the 2023 Peugeot 308 PHEV sits at the top of the 308 range for now and is only available in top-spec GT Sport form. The 308 plug-in hybrid offers up to 60km of all-electric range on the WLTP cycle and up to 165kW of power.

“Offering added power and electric motor performance, the launch of the GT Sport Hatch Plug-In Hybrid allows us to enter into the electrified small car segment for the first time in Australia as we push forward on our electrification journey.
Under the body of the 2023 Peugeot 308 PHEV is a 132kW/250Nm 1.6-litre four-cylinder turbo-petrol engine that is supplemented by an 81kW/320Nm electric motor on the front wheels. Combined outputs are 165kW of power and 360Nm of torque and like the regular 308, the 308 PHEV uses an eight-speed automatic transmission but the torque converter has been replaced by wet multi-disc clutch.
That gives the 308 PHEV far more grunt than the 96kW/230Nm 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine in the rest of the 308 range, so its 0-100km/h sprint time is much quicker at 7.5 seconds. Yet thanks to a 12.4kWh battery, the PHEV is capable of up to 60km of electric driving (WLTP). The battery can be recharged in as little as 3.5 hours thanks to a 3.7kW maximum charging rate. The combined fuel consumption rating for the 308 PHEV is just 1.3L/100km.
Standard equipment for the 2023 Peugeot 308 GT Sport PHEV matches the GT Premium that sits below it – features include 18-inch alloy wheels, automatic all-LED lighting with front and rear daytime running lights, auto wipers, keyless entry and start, a sunroof, rear privacy glass, dual-zone climate control with rear air vents, Nappa leather upholstery, heated/electric/massaging front seats with driver’s memory functionality, a heated steering wheel, a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, satellite navigation with live traffic, digital radio, a 10-inch digital driver’s display, a wireless phone charger, four USB ports and a 10-speaker Focal sound system.
Safety equipment includes six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) with low-light pedestrian and cyclist detection, Matrix adaptive high beam, lane keeping assistance with stop and go functionality, adaptive cruise control with traffic jam assist, long-range blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, automatic parking, front and rear parking sensors and a 360-degree camera.
Unique features to the plug-in hybrid variant of the 308 range include a type 2 charging cable, a 3.7kW onboard charger, a low-speed acoustic warning, an extra driving mode and a zero emissions indicator.
As with the regular 308 range, the only no-cost colour is ‘Olivine Green’ with ‘Artense Grey’ and ‘Nera Black’ adding $690 to the cost and ‘Elixir Red’, ‘Pearl White’ and ‘Vertigo Blue’ adding $1,050. Black Nappa leather is the only interior colour option.
Like other Peugeot products, the 2023 Peugeot 308 PHEV is covered by a five-year/unlimited km warranty with five years of roadside assistance – the battery warranty is eight years/160,000km. Five years/100,000km of servicing costs $2,960 ($592 per service – $291 more than petrol variants that have shorter 15,000km service intervals), though buyers can choose a pre-paid five-year service pack at the time of purchase for $2,000 ($4000 per service).
