Not long after announcing local pricing and specifications for the all-new fourth-generation Nissan X-Trail, Nissan Australia has announced confirmation and timing for the new X-Trail e-Power hybrid. Due in Australia in early 2023, the 2023 Nissan X-Trail e-Power will sit atop the local X-Trail range, with pricing yet to be announced. Finally giving consumers another mid-size hybrid SUV, the X-Trail e-Power will compete with just the Toyota RAV4 hybrid and Haval H6 hybrid so far.

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Nissan X-Trail e-Power is a turbocharged 1.5-litre four-cylinder petrol engine that’s mated to two electric motors – one on the front axle (producing 150kW/330Nm) and one on the rear axle (making 100kW/195Nm). In Europe, the total output is rated at 157kW of power.
But unlike its hybrid competitors, Nissan’s ‘e-Power’ hybrid system uses the petrol engine purely as a generator for the electric motors, which means that the petrol engine never directly powers the wheels. Fuel economy is rated at 6.1L/100km in Europe – we expect that to fall in Australia.
Unlike the RAV4, the e-Power variant of the X-Trail will only be available in Australia in the two top-spec models and only with Nissan’s ‘e-4orce’ all-wheel drive system: the Ti and Ti-L. With those models’ pricing listed at $49,990 plus on-road costs for the Ti and $52,990 +ORC for the Ti-L, the e-Power is unlikely to be cheap in Australia. Hopefully Nissan adds cheaper hybrid variants in the future.
However, while they won’t be cheap, the X-Trail e-Power variants will be well equipped. Kit on the Ti includes leather upholstery, 19-inch wheels, a panoramic sunroof, LED indicators, tri-zone climate control, Matrix high beam functionality, auto wipers, an electric tailgate, a 12.3-inch touchscreen with satellite navigation, a 10.8-inch head’s up display, wireless Apple CarPlay and a wireless phone charger, and a 12.3-inch digital driver’s display.
The Ti-L adds a heated steering wheel, a 10-speaker Bose sound system, quilted Nappa leather upholstery with memory functionality for the driver’s seat, ambient interior lighting, auto-tilting mirrors, rear door sunshades, a hands-free tailgate, heated rear outboard seats and remote engine start.
Crucially, both models include seven airbags (including a front centre unit), auto emergency braking (AEB) with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot monitoring with rear cross-traffic alert, auto rear braking, lane keep assist and departure prevention, lane trace assist, traffic sign recognition, adaptive cruise control, a reversing camera, rear parking sensors and auto high beam.
