First teaser video for Nissan’s hard-core Aussie-developed V8 Patrol shows flagship SUV in Big Desert
Nissan Australia and its local engineering partner Premcar have released the first teaser video of the upcoming 2023 Nissan Patrol Warrior, with the short-but-dynamic sunset clip showing the flagship 4×4 off-roader carving up sand dunes and tracks in Victoria’s Big Desert.
Posted to YouTube today, the short clip highlights the Nissan Patrol Warrior’s powerful V8 and uprated off-road performance with a slow-motion power slide and a bellowing soundtrack as the prototype tears across the Outback and disappears into the darkness.
The video is designed to create a buzz as Premcar continues work on the long-awaited Nissan Patrol Warrior ahead of its anticipated launch in the third quarter of this year.
The clip doesn’t provide fresh insight into the Aussie Warrior SUV’s design and modifications – the 5.6-litre V8 petrol engine is expected to be unchanged, although a side-exit exhaust is on the cards – apart from the raised set of driving lights fitted.
Based on Premcar’s Warrior work with the Nissan Navara ute, the front lights are likely to have been relocated and integrated with a new steel bumper or hoop-less bull bar, providing the Patrol Warrior with provisions for a winch and other accessories.
The mods will also improve clearance off-road in conjunction with a significantly upgraded suspension and all-terrain tyres.
Such modifications are common in the aftermarket, but this is the first time Nissan has offered a factory-backed hard-core Patrol to the public – and odds are it won’t be available for too long given the next-generation Y63 Patrol has already been spied testing.
We expect the new-generation Nissan Patrol to arrive in 2025, which gives Premcar and Nissan a couple of years to produce several thousand examples of the flagship Y62-based Warrior.
Premcar recently racked up its 5000th Warrior ute from its Melbourne production facility and, together with Nissan, will be expecting the Patrol to prove every bit as popular.
