The 2023 Mazda CX-3 will be launched locally in September armed with a revised model lineup, new features across the range and pricing updates. Priced from $26,800 plus on-road costs for the new entry-level Sport, the CX-3 range kicks off $3,290 higher than 2022 thanks to the deletion of the cheaper manual gearbox but even at the entry point, the CX-3 is better equipped than before. The updated CX-3 follows a recent update to the Mazda3, and we expect a CX-30 update soon too.

Commenting on the latest round of updates, Vinesh Bhindi, Managing Director Mazda Australia said: “As the entry point into the Mazda SUV range, the CX-3 has a hugely important role to play. At this price point, buyers expect understated styling, extensive safety features, high specification and cutting-edge connectivity, which is exactly what our latest update delivers on.”

The biggest update to the 2023 Mazda CX-3 range is the new model lineup, with Sport replacing Neo Sport, Pure replacing Maxx Sport, Evolve replacing Maxx Sport LE and Touring SP replacing sTouring. The Akari remains at the top of the range. Over the former Neo Sport, the new CX-3 Sport (priced from $26,800 plus on-road costs) adds new 16-inch alloy wheels, blind-spot monitoring and rear cross-traffic alert, wireless Apple CarPlay, auto-folding mirrors and remote window control.

That’s in addition to the Neo Sport’s standard kit, including manual air-conditioning, an 8.0-inch touchscreen with digital radio, a six-speaker sound system, an electric parking brake, six airbags, auto emergency braking (AEB) in forward and reverse, rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.

Replacing the former Maxx Sport, the new 2023 Mazda CX-3 Pure ($29,300 +ORC) adds new front and rear LED lighting with LED daytime running lights, auto high beam, lane departure warning, driver attention alert and a heads-up display. That’s on top of the former Maxx Sport’s equipment levels, including single-zone climate control, dusk-sensing auto headlights, auto wipers, a leather steering wheel and gear knob, a rear centre arm rest, satellite navigation and an auto-dimming rear mirror.

The new mid-spec CX-3 is the Evolve ($31,050 +ORC) and over the former Maxx Sport LE it replaces, it adds new 18-inch alloy wheels, front parking sensors and white synthetic leather and tan suede upholstery.

The CX-3 Touring SP ($34,400 +ORC) replaces the former sTouring and adds black 18-inch alloy wheels, a black painted roof, black leather and suede upholstery with blue highlights, a 10-way electrically adjustable driver’s seat with memory, adaptive cruise control with stop and go functionality and a black chrome front grille. That’s in addition to LED front fog lights, keyless entry and start from the sTouring.

Finally, the top-spec Akari ($38,620 +ORC) keeps its name but adds a seven-speaker Bose sound system that’s been available in overseas CX-3s since it was released and new 18-inch wheels. That’s in addition to its other equipment, which includes a 360-degree camera, a sunroof, Matrix adaptive high beam functionality for the headlights and black leather upholstery.

The 2023 Mazda CX-3 also adds a new ‘Aero Grey’ colour, which is available in addition to ‘Soul Red Crystal’, ‘Machine Grey’, ‘Polymetal Grey’, ‘Platinum Quartz’, ‘Jet Black’ and ‘Snowflake White Pearl’. The CX-3 Touring SP is available with red, white, the new grey, the flat grey and gold with its black roof – Mazda is yet to announce colour pricing.

Under the bonnet of the 2023 Mazda CX-3 remains unchanged with a 110kW/195Nm 2.0-litre four-cylinder petrol engine offered as the only engine option. Both the former manual gearbox and all-wheel drive options have been dropped – the CX-3 is now front-wheel drive and only available with a six-speed automatic transmission. In 2022 Neo Sport automatic trim, the CX-3 uses 6.3L/100km of fuel – we don’t expect that to change for 2023.
