New Maserati GranTurismo gets two V6 engine options plus a fully electric version that produces 745bhp. Here’s everything you need to know, including the price, specs and release date...
On sale: Spring 2023 | Price from: £125,000 (est)
When choosing what to have for dinner, it can often be difficult to decide whether to go for the healthy or unhealthy option. And for buyers lucky enough to be considering the all-new Maserati GranTurismo, they’ll likely be in a similar position, because it’ll be offered with the choice of V6 petrol or fully electric power.
In this instance, the GranTurismo’s ‘healthy’ option is the fully electric ‘Folgore’ version (which is Italian for lightning). It’s powered by three electric motors, two mounted on the rear axle and one on the front, which combine to give it four-wheel drive. In total, the motors produce 745bhp and 997lb ft of torque, so it can sprint from 0-62mph in just 2.7sec.
Feeding the electric motors is a 93kWh battery, and it should give the Folgore a range of around 300 miles. That would place it in-line with the 751bhp Porsche Taycan Turbo S, which can go from 0-62mph in 2.8sec and travel an official 291 miles with its 93.4kWh battery. Like the Taycan, the Folgore has 800v charging capability, meaning it should be able to charge from 10-80% in around 20 minutes if you can find a suitably powerful charging point.
The new GranTurismo will also be offered with the choice of two 3.0-litre twin-turbocharged V6 engines. In ‘Modena’ form, the V6 produces 489bhp and 443lb ft of torque, and in ‘Trofeo’ form it produces 542bhp and 479lb ft of torque. The latter can sprint from 0-62mph in 3.5sec, which is a tad faster than the Aston Martin Vantage’s time of 3.6sec.
To distinguish between the V6 and Folgore models, there are some minor styling differences which include different front and rear bumper designs, as well as the obvious addition of quad exhaust pipes on the V6 models.
Inside, the GranTurismo will get dual touch screens for both the infotainment and climate controls (the former 12.3in and latter 8.8in), as well as a 12.0in digital driver’s display. Both models will have four seats, although the Folgore will have a slightly smaller boot than the V6 so it can accommodate the rear electric motors.
Full UK pricing and specifications are yet to be confirmed, but the GranTurismo is likely to start from £125,000 for the Modena, £150,000 for the Trofeo and £175,000 for the Folgore.
