The Kawasaki Ninja 400 has been launched in India for the 2023 model year, priced at ₹ 4.99 lakh (ex-showroom, India). The 400 cc motorcycle finally meets Euro5/BS6 emission norms and arrives with revised colour options. The 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 is sold alongside the Ninja 300 in India but the latter is targeted at beginner riders, while the latter is targeted more experienced ones and is substantially more expensive than the BS4 model. The new Lime Green is the KRT Edition and has lime green as the base colour with black graphics on the fairing along with red highlights. Styling has been improved by a race-inspired graphics while ‘Metallic Carbon Gray’ and comes with black colour with lime green highlights on fairing, tank and cowl.

The 2023 Kawasaki Ninja 400 draws power from the updated 399 cc parallel-twin, liquid-cooled motor. The unit is the same as before barring the changes made to bring it up to speed to the BS6 emission norms. The engine develops the same 44 bhp at 10,000 rpm, while peak torque is down by 1 Nm to 37 Nm at 8,000 rpm. The engine is paired with a 6-speed gearbox. Compared to the older model, the 2023 Ninja 400 now comes with an updated slip-and-assist clutch that Kawasaki says has 20 per cent lighter lever action than before.
Other mechanical bits include 41 mm Kayaba-sourced telescopic forks and a preload-adjustable monoshock at the rear. Braking performance comes from 286 mm semi-floating petal front disc and a 193 mm petal rear disc. The bike rides on 17-inch alloys with 110/70 section front and 150/60 section rear tyre. The kerb weight stands at 168 kg, the same as before. The bike also gets dual-channel ABS as standard. Other features include a twin-pod headlamp, fairing-mounted rearview mirrors, a fairly large 14-litre fuel tank, split seats and a side-slung exhaust.
