After its redesign for the 2022 model year, Jeep has announced that its 2023 Compass SUV will only be available in all-wheel-drive and be equipped with a new engine — among other things — providing a boost in performance.
The 2023 Jeep Compass’ new engine is a turbocharged 2.0-litre inline-four, that replaces the old 2.4-litre four-cylinder engine it previously donned. Featuring 200 horsepower and 221 pound-feet of torque, the new engine surpasses the 177–180 horsepower it used to wield. It’s mated to a new standard eight-speed automatic transmission. The front-wheel-drive model has been scrapped, meaning the Jeep Active Drive 4×4 system is now standard on all Compass trims. Jeep Active Drive and Active Drive Low 4×4 systems will instantly engage when 4×4 traction is needed.
The all-new Jeep Compass lineup will have five models — Sport, North, Altitude, Limited and Trailhawk, though there are also two appearance and special edition packages that include an expanded list of of exterior colours and the special Compass (RED) edition.
Drivers can expect a new infotainment screen and more than 2,000 pounds of towing capacity. Additionally, there are more standard advanced safety features, including drowsy driver detection, full-speed forward collision warning with active braking, and more. The highway assist semi-autonomous driving system is available on Limited and Trailhawk, as well as traffic sign recognition. Front and rear park assist sensors, parallel and perpendicular park assist, and a surround view camera are available on the North models and above.
“We’ve received tremendous customer feedback on the Jeep Compass’ new interior and all the high-tech features, and now we have the opportunity to showcase the 2.0-litre turbocharged engine standard on all Compass models for the 2023 model year,” Jim Morrison, senior vice president and head of Jeep brand North America, said in a statement. “I can’t wait for customers to take it for a spin because not only is it more powerful, it’s also really fun to drive.”
Canadian prices have not yet been announced for the 2023 Jeep Compass, but the U.S. saw a slight bump in price, so we can likely expect the same on this side of the border. The 2022 Compass started with the $30,795 FWD Sport trim, which is no longer available, but we’ll have to wait a little longer for full 2023 pricing details. The 2023 Jeep Compass is scheduled to arrive in early 2023.
