Genesis has been on a roll over the past few years. The South Korean automaker has produced some of the most unique and luxurious sedans and SUVs that compete well in their respective segments. Even the German competitors should be put on notice.
For 2023, Genesis has taken its production a step further into the future with the GV60. The GV60 is an all-electric, AWD compact SUV that competes with other EVs like the Tesla Model Y, Audi E-Tron, and Volvo C40. During our week with the car, we enjoyed its luxurious appeal and staggering power. However, there are only a couple of minor drawbacks.
What’s new for 2023?
The 2023 Genesis GV60 is the brand’s first entry into the luxury EV market. It shares its underpinnings with the Hyundai Ioniq 5 and Kia EV6. From what we can tell, the GV60 is a formidable competitor in its segment, but we wish it had more range.
Which trim level should you buy?

Shopping for a 2023 GV60 is easy as there are only two different trim levels to choose from:
- Advanced: $59,985
- Performance: $68,985
If you don’t care about the added performance that the higher trim level puts out, then we recommend the GV60 Advanced. It comes well-equipped with the Bang and Olufsen sound system, 20-inch wheels, heated and ventilated seats, and all of the driver-assist features you need.
Our tester for the week was a Genesis GV60 Performance model that included a $575 upcharge for the Savile Silver paint job. The price, as tested, was $69,560, which includes the $1,095 destination charge.
What is the difference between the Genesis GV60 Advanced and Performance trims?

The GV60 Performance model has more horsepower, a boost function, an electronic limited-slip differential, Nappa leather upholstery, and heated rear seats. If you don’t want to spend the extra $10,000 for the Performance model, the 2023 Genesis GV60 Advanced comes well-appointed right out of the box.
In addition to the aforementioned features, the GV60 Advanced comes with LED daytime running lights, dual-zone climate control, a heated steering wheel, and a hands-free tailgate.
There are also plenty of tech features onboard. Some of the most notable features include Apple Carplay/Android Auto smartphone integration, two USB-C ports, a 12.3-inch touchscreen, and a 360-degree camera system.
Two features that surprised us were the facial-recognition camera in the driver’s side door pillar and the fingerprint scan button on the center console. They’re put there so that the driver doesn’t need to have the key present to gain entry and start the car.
Considering these technological advancements, one big turn-off was the need for a cable to connect to Apple Carplay. Hopefully, Genesis will address that minor drawback in future models.

On the road, the 2023 GV60 drives quietly and smoothly. There’s no denying that it belongs in the luxury category as road and wind noise are minimal, which equates to a peaceful and serene cabin. The seats are comfortable, and everything you need is at close reach. The HVAC and audio controls could take some getting used to, but the little scroll wheels and haptic buttons are intuitive after a slight learning curve.
We especially liked the small crystal ball on the center console that flips over to reveal the dial shifter when the car is turned on. However, put the shifter into “drive” and prepare for a powerful experience.
Around town and under normal driving, the GV60 feels smooth as long as you can get used to the regenerative braking when lifting off the throttle. Fortunately, that regen can be adjusted with a flick of the paddles on the steering wheel. One thing to note is that the car’s turning radius is not very good, which led to five-point turns in tight parking situations.
But when it’s time to get onto the freeway quickly or pass a slower car, the GV60 comes alive with a stab of the throttle pedal. Genesis says that the GV60 Performance can get to 60 mph from a standstill in less than four seconds.
We didn’t time it, but we believe it. Flooring the accelerator results in a massive thrust through the cabin. Every occupant’s head gets pushed back, and an enthusiastic “OMG!” emits from their mouths. That massive pull is further accentuated when the “boost” button on the steering wheel is pushed. It ups the power rating by around 50 for five seconds.
Who knew that Genesis could make an electric car feel like it belongs in the “Fast and Furious” franchise?

Both Genesis GV60 trim levels come standard in AWD configuration. The base Advanced trim has a 99-hp motor driving the front wheels and a 215-hp motor between the rear wheels. The total torque output is 446, which is the same for the Performance model.
However, the upper trim level has a larger motor at both ends, for a total of 429 hp compared to the base model’s 314. A huge difference between them is the presence of the “Boost” button on the Performance model’s steering wheel. Pressing that button increases the car’s power figures to 483 hp and 516 lb-ft of torque for five seconds.
As far as range goes, the GV60 Advanced can get up to 248 miles on a single charge, while the Performance trim delivers around 235 miles.
In our testing, charging the GV60 via a Level 2 charger with 176 kW of charging led to a short 20-minute fill-up from 40% to 90%. On the other hand, charging with a Level 1 household outlet led to a disappointing 1% increase in battery power over a 10-hour period.
How safe is the GV60?
The 2023 GV60 comes with a host of safety features, including a forward collision avoidance assist, lane-keep assist, Blind Spot monitoring in the instrument panel, and a rear-cross traffic alert system.
Other driver-assist features include Smart cruise control with Stop & Go, Intelligent speed limit assist, remote Smart parking assist, and a driver attention warning. As of this writing, the NHTSA and IIHS have yet to rate the 2023 Genesis GV60.

Overall, we found that the 2023 Genesis GV60 is a sophisticated and well-executed entry into the electric luxury SUV segment. With its superb power and comfortable cabin, the GV60 aims to impress even the most stringent of car critics – even current Tesla owners. However, the only major drawback is that it does cost a little more than its rivals.

The Genesis GV60 has everything anyone could want from a luxury electric car in terms of comfort, tech, and performance. That said, its only major drawbacks are its lack of range and high price point. Aside from that, if the GV60 is a sign of what we can expect from the future, then the future looks good.
