Genesis unveiled the exterior of the 2023 G90 last month and now they’re following up with interior pictures as well as details.
Starting in the cabin, the sedan has been “designed to satisfy both customers who take the wheel themselves and those who are driven by chauffeurs.”
The DIY crowd will find a stylish cockpit, which looks far more modern and luxurious than its predecessor. Genesis was coy on specifics, but drivers will sit behind a two-spoke steering wheel and find themselves looking at a new “connected car Integrated Cockpit” display. It consists of a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a next-generation 12.3-inch infotainment system.
The infotainment system resides above digital climate controls and slender air vents, which have the illusion of spanning the width of the dashboard. Elsewhere, there’s a rotary shifter as well as a center console that incorporates glass and aluminum to “express upscale analog sensitivities.”
Buyers will also find Newspaper Crown or Newspaper Stripe wood trim. Genesis says the material is made “utilizing a new method that minimizes its impact on the environment by reprocessing wastepaper from daily life, including newspapers.” It’s joined by a metal inlay that pays homage to the traditional Korean crafting technique of sanggam and “maximizes the vehicle’s sense of stature by inlaying the Two Lines and the G-matrix pattern onto real metal, ash wood, and forged carbon surfaces.”
The company went on to say the G90 will have a 23-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system with pop-up tweeters. The model will also have two panoramic sunroofs, which feature ambient lighting and can be controlled individually.
Furthermore, the G90 is the first Genesis to be equipped with a fragrance system. The car can hold two cartridges at a time and the type and intensity of the fragrance can be controlled through the infotainment system as well as the rear seat touch controller. There’s no word on what the fragrances smell like, but they’re called The Driver’s Awakening, The Great Outdoors, and My Favorite Place.
Other highlights include curtains and “ergo-relaxing” front seats that feature ten air cells in the seatback as well as two air cells in the cushion. The seats offer four types of massage including “full body, waist, pelvis, and upper body, with three options for massage duration and strength.”
Of course, the G90 is all about the rear seats and passengers won’t be disappointed as there’s a VIP seat on the right side. It features heating and ventilation as well as a footrest. The rear seats also offer power recline and Genesis noted occupants will find “thoughtfully designed storage spaces such as [an] independent tray for magazines and books in the C-pillar area of the second row.”
Rear seat passengers will also have access to an 8-inch Armrest Touch Screen. It enables them to adjust the seats, climate control system, curtain position, and lighting with just a few taps.
Putting the interior aside, Genesis confirmed the model will come equipped with a 3.5-liter V6 engine that is paired to an eight-speed automatic transmission. U.S. specifications will be announced closer to launch, but the Korean-spec model has a twin-turbo 3.5-liter V6 that develops 375 hp (280 kW / 380 PS) and 391 lb-ft (530 Nm) of torque. That suggests the engine will carryover from the G80.
Speaking of performance, the redesigned flagship promises a smoother ride thanks to a Preview-Electronic Control Suspension that uses a front camera to recognize road conditions and anticipate imperfections. The model also has a Multi-Chamber air suspension with three settings including a high mode, which raises the sedan nearly an inch (25 mm).
The air suspension also uses sensors to detect when the car is on a steep slope. When this occurs, the front end is elevated to help prevent damage to the undercarriage.
Other notable features include a rear wheel steering system that enables the rear wheels to turn up to four degrees at low speeds, such as when parking. At higher speeds, the rear wheels only turn up to two degrees. Genesis says the system improves agility and cornering stability, while also enabling the model to have a turning radius similar to a midsize sedan.
Lastly, on the dynamic front, the model has an adjustable braking system that allows drivers to select between three different modes. One of them is known as Chauffeur mode and it presumably assists in providing subdued stops.
On the technology front, the G90 has “Auto Flush Door Handles” that automatically deploy as the driver approaches. Once inside, the EasyClose system closes all four doors at the press of a button. The driver’s door can also be programmed to automatically close once the brake pedal is pressed.
On the topic of doors, the G90 is equipped with a Digital Key 2 system. It enables owners to open the vehicle as long as their phone is nearby.
Once inside, drivers can start the car using the G90’s Fingerprint Authentication System. The system also loads their personal settings and it can recognize different drivers by their fingerprint.
Other tech features include support for over-the-air updates and Hands On Detection technology. The latter enables the car to accurately detect when the driver is holding the steering wheel and this should eliminate unnecessary warnings.
The redesigned Genesis G90 is slated to be launched next year and it should come to America as a 2023 model.
