2023 ford mustang mach-e orders reopen, prices swell

Production for the Ford Mustang Mach-E appears to be back on track as the automaker announced it will resume orders for the all-electric SUV starting Tuesday. The announcement comes after Ford closed orders for the 2022 Mach-E in April due to shortages and high demand. The promising news for customers who missed out on a 2022 model also comes with notable caveats, however: The 2023 models arrive with new options, a longer-range Premium model and steeper price tags across the board.

Premium Adds Range, California Route 1 Drops RWD

The Mustang Mach-E Premium trim, which comes with either a standard-range 70-kilowatt-hour or extended-range 91-kWh battery pack, gets a higher expected range for the latter variant with all-wheel drive. Ford estimates the model will now have 290 miles of range, an increase of 13 miles from the 2022’s EPA-rated 277 miles.

The California Route 1 trim, available only with the extended range 91-kWh battery, previously offered the Mustang Mach-E’s longest range in rear-wheel-drive form. It now only comes with AWD, dropping the estimated range from 314 miles to 312.

Take BlueCruise for a Spin

The Ford Co-Pilot360 driver assist suite once again comes standard across all Mustang Mach-E models. The suite bundles features including forward collision warning with automatic emergency braking and pedestrian detection, blind spot warning with rear cross-traffic alert and lane keep assist. The Co-Pilot360 Active 2.0 Prep Package — standard on California Route 1 and Premium trims and available on the Select and GT — adds Ford’s BlueCruise system.

BlueCruise works with the vehicle’s intelligent adaptive cruise control with lane centering and speed sign recognition to enable hands-free driving on specified highways. According to Ford, vehicles that don’t come standard with the feature will now offer a 90-day trial so customers can test the service before signing up; a 360-degree camera system will be available for the same trial period in the Select.

In previous models, the cost of BlueCruise software was $600 for a three-year service period; the entire package to add the hardware and software retailed for $3,200. Ford says updated pricing for BlueCruise will be shared soon.

Visual Tweaks

Updates to the 2023 Mustang Mach-E’s exterior include a newly available Nite Pony Package for the Premium with extended-range battery and GT Performance Edition. To the Premium, the $800 package adds gloss-black 19-inch wheels, black front and rear accents, and door cladding; the GT Performance Edition gets 20-inch high-gloss black wheels and a black GT badge.

Additionally, the GT and GT Performance Edition receive a standard panoramic glass roof that replaces the black painted roof in outgoing models. Other exterior updates include two new paint color choices: Carbonized Gray Metallic and Vapor Blue Metallic.

Charged Up Prices

All 2023 Mustang Mach-E models see substantial price increases. The starting price for the Select climbs by $3,200; with no more RWD option, the California Route 1’s starting price is up $11,000; the Premium jumps by $6,075; and the GT is up $8,100 (prices include a $1,300 destination charge, also up by $200). Pricing for the GT Performance Package remains unchanged at $6,000, and AWD adds $2,700 to Select and Premium trims.

  • Select: $48,195
  • California Route 1: $64,875
  • Premium: $56,275
  • GT: $71,195

According to Ford, customers with unscheduled 2022 Mustang Mach-E orders will get an offer to convert to a 2023 model. The automaker blames increased material costs and supply chain constraints, among other challenges, for the sizable price hikes.
